Last night’s City of Palmerston council meeting was held at the City of Palmerston Library.
Highlights below:

✔️ Work has begun upgrading Woodroffe Park and should be completed next month.
✔️ The work to upgrade the Animal Management Facility will also be complete in October, with this stage being the addition of 16 new dog pens.
✔️ I asked a question about the w**d harvester active dates noting Salvinia is present again in some of our lakes. I will update when that information comes back.
✔️ I also asked about how we are managing the feral pigs that are currently around Durack and Durack Heights and Council has advised it is working with agencies to manage this situation.
✔️ Work has begun on the reseal program with four sections of Lambrick Avenue, between Shearwater Drive and Hutchinson Terrace asphalted last month.
✔️ Council has secured $6.8million from the NTG for our infrastructure support package with two projects being approved in the first instance; fencing of Bloodwood Park and Driver Avenue Path upgrade. The Bloodwood Park Fencing tender will be released this month while Driver Avenue Path has quotations for design under assessment.
✔️ The next package project plans are being prepared for approval including:
• Widdup Park softfall replacement.
• Mitchell Creek walking trail.
✔️ We approved the Risk Management and Audit Committee Open Minutes and Terms of Reference. These can be found on our website.
✔️ Council also approved the Communication and Engagement Strategy.
✔️ A submission to the Northern Territory Local Government Representation Review Committee will be made in response to the NT Local Government Representation Review Discussion Paper 2026.
✔️ Total payments to creditors in August came to $2.05 million, of which $1.73
million (84.46%) was paid to local suppliers.
✔️ Council endorsed the Archer Wasteland Management Facility recycling area and Reboot Your Loot repair workshop to the LGANT circular economy awards.
✔️ And last but not least - don’t forget our pre- cyclone clean up starts this month on September 21 for residents of Marlow Lagoon, Driver and Moulden. Please place your rubbish on the verge over the weekend for collection from the Monday.

It's time to have your say on Widdup Park, Driver. Community consultation has begun and is open until 21 September.
Council staff have been out and about and listening to the community, including students from Driver School about what they'd like to see at the park.
City of Palmerston is planning improvements to Widdup Park, with a focus on creating a more active, welcoming space for local residents and young people.

Want to get out and about this weekend, but not sure what to do? Why not join in on Palmerston's Great Spring Clean Up at Hobart Park Johnston, this Sunday. from 8-10am.

You can be part of a community effort to keep Palmerston clean, green and beautiful.

will provide gloves, sunscreen and insect repellent.
There will also be complimentary breakfast by Palmerston Lions NT and coffee by Seashells Coffee and Treats after the clean up

Don't forget to wear closed footwear and bring a hat and water bottle to stay hydrated.

The weather has definitely shifted, but that doesn't mean the dry season fun is finished. This Saturday, the Darwin International Film Festival is coming to Palmerston for a FREE movie showing.

The night kicks off from 6pm at Goyder Square with food trucks, entertainment by Fairy Jill and a light show from Northern Lights NT.
The movie, The Pout Pout Fish, will start at 7pm.

It’s time to have a look around your yard and plan your clear-out to help get your home ready for the wet season. 🌿

Collections will take place across 4 zones.

Check your collection date and make sure to mark the calendar so you don’t miss out.

📌 Please place items on your verge the weekend before your zone’s collection date, not earlier.

🌟Community updates 🌟

👉Through the Community Funding Program, a wide range of community events or activities are supported through sponsorships and grant funding. In FY25/26, $17,205 was invested into the creative industries through the Community Funding Program to support events and activities include cultural celebrations, coding clubs, gaming and martial arts.
👉 Following the success of the inaugural Darwin International Film Festival in Palmerston, a further three-year agreement has been secured, ensuring the continued delivery of free film screenings for the Palmerston community.
👉 The partnership with Darwin Festival has been extended for a further three years, so Palmerston residents can continue to enjoy events from the Territory’s largest festival within their local community.
👉 Through ongoing collaboration with Tourism and Events Northern Territory, Palmerston will continue to host and support major events such as the Supercars, creating opportunities for residents and attracting visitors to the city.
👉 City of Palmerston has reviewed and consulted on the Disability and Inclusion Action Plan 2026–2028 to help ensure that all programs, services and events provide welcoming, accessible and inclusive environments for people of all
abilities.

Did you know the Creative Industries Plan guides the growth of arts and cultural activities in Palmerston?
Council continues to strengthen Palmerston’s creative identity through public art, youth led design opportunities, cultural programming and employment pathways for local creative practitioners.
Key achievements over the last 12 months included a local Palmerston student’s artwork on the new Hobart Park amenities block, a youth-designed artwork for the Palmerston Youth Festival and a community inspired youth library mural.

Over the next year, the following activities are planned:

🖌 Explore a partnership with Music NT to develop two music industry development events in Palmerston.
🖌 Continue to provide creative skills building workshops
🖌 Develop placemaking projects that speak to the culture and creativity of our
Palmerston community and
🖌 Continue the Community Funding Program to ensure continuation of
community lead creative initiatives.

This Sunday is the last Brekkie in the Park for 2026 by of Palmerston
Come join the team at Joan Fejo Park, Rosebery from 8-10am and enjoy a morning of a free brekkie and family friendly activities.
There will be $50 microchipping vouchers up for grabs on the day and you can also have a chat with our rangers.
Alongside the brekkie there will also be: Storytime, Tip Top Rad Reptiles, SoccaJoeys, Pilates and Qalmolmi Art.

Pets on a lead, scooters, skateboards and bikes are all welcome.

🌟Community updates 🌟
➡The upgrade to Woodroffe Park is expected to be completed by October.
Work is underway to secure permits and approvals for construction work while the project awaits delivery of ordered materials including play equipment.
The project has a total budget of $600,000 and is 100% funded by the Northern Territory Government.
➡ The SWELL solar and battery project has been awarded to Eco Tech Electrical. Design work is underway and an application to connect the solar and battery
system to the grid has been submitted. Work is expected to be completed by December. The project is part funded by a grant from the Australian Government.
