Let’s talk about why developing life skills is so important for children with disability.
Life skills help children gain the confidence and practical abilities needed to manage everyday tasks and become more independent as they grow. Skills such as communicating effectively, making choices, preparing simple meals, managing personal hygiene, and participating in community activities all contribute to greater self reliance. Learning these skills also supports problem-solving, decision-making, and social development, helping children feel more capable in different situations. By building life skills from an early age, children are better prepared to navigate adulthood, achieve their goals, and participate more actively in their communities. It also allows them to achieve their designated NDIS goals, allowing them to grow into responsible young adults.
