FIT FOR DUTY: WEEKLY CHECKS

We’re challenging our members to be Fit For Duty - mentally and physically.

WEEK 2 is 'Tabata' - A circuit style workout that the whole crew can do together.

Just like last week; complete your Station Tabata together, take photos and send your pics to [email protected]

The stations with the highest participation will go into the draw to win a team prize.

We're needing you to be active in your own rescue. We need to look after yourselves and each other; making sure we’re all fit for duty both mentally and physically.

Because no one’s coming to rescue us...

Great stuff Albany crew!

FIT FOR DUTY: WEEKLY CHECKS

We’re challenging our members to be Fit For Duty - mentally and physically.

Over the next four weeks, a new challenge focused on our members' mental or physical health will be emailed to every station.

WEEK 1 is 'Deck of Cards' - A staple of fire station gyms for decades.

This simple workout is easily customised to suit all abilities and promotes involvement across all platoons.

Complete it as a crew, take photos and send your pics to [email protected]

The stations with the highest participation will go into the draw to win a team prize.

This is about being active in your own rescue. It's up to us to look after ourselves and each other; making sure we’re fit for duty both mentally and physically.

Because no one’s coming to rescue us...

Last night, multiple Career Fire Stations commenced the 14 hour nightshift without enough staff.

When no off-duty staff were available to assist with these vacancies, outgoing staff from the dayshift offered to complete 24 hour shifts to keep trucks online.

To the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA's credit, all of these offers were accepted and ALL Fire Trucks that should have been online and available to serve the community were ONLINE and AVAILABLE.

Fire Trucks, that should have been available and online at full capacity, have been understaffed 1,886 times since mid-2024. We hope this practice is coming to an end.

We look forward to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA continuing to prioritise Community Safety by keeping trucks online, and that the multiple stations under-staffed today are kept online without the removal of Fire Trucks from service.

Phil Gore ran for 152 hours and 32 minutes straight, and we couldn't be prouder - Simply amazing!

While Phil Gore’s bid to run a 6.7km loop of the Armadale Soccer Club oval on the hour for 168 hours straight fell short, he couldn’t be prouder of the result.

Project 168: Senior Firefighter Phil Gore is set to push human limits to the extreme for Telethon.

“Project 168”, is a brutal and non-stop seven-day solo running challenge to raise $168,000 for Telethon.

From Sunday, Phil will complete a 6.7km loop of the Armadale Soccer Club oval on the hour for 168 consecutive hours. That’s seven full days without a night’s sleep, covering a distance exceeding most elite multi-day ultra-marathons.

You can support Phil's efforts for Telethon by donating here:

WA endurance powerhouse Phil Gore is no stranger to pushing human limits, but his latest feat will see him venture into uncharted territory even for him.

Due to the quick response from local stations, crews were able to contain this structure fire, at a daycare centre, to the kitchen.

It's now been 1,878 times since mid-2024 that WA's Career Fire Stations have not been available to respond to incidents with their full and correct compliment of staff - with trucks operating below minimum safe staffing profile, being placed on Restricted Duties or being removed from service altogether.

Minutes matter and can be the difference between the complete loss of a property or containment to just a single room. It can be the difference between rescuing someone alive from a crashed vehicle or not. It can be the difference between containing a hazardous substance early or having suburbs evacuated as a result of the HAZMAT incident.

It's time for WA Labor to be the difference by adequately funding and supporting the WA Career Fire and Rescue Service - before it's too late.

The building sustained extensive smoke damage from the blaze which began in the kitchen just before 5am.
