πŸ°πŸ’› Our Cancer Support Nurse, Nicole, has been out supporting local Biggest Morning Tea events across our communities – sharing a powerful message about cancer, care and connection.

While these events might seem simple β€” a cup of tea, a slice of cake and a chat β€” Nicole reminded us they mean so much more.

πŸ’¬ β€œCancer can feel incredibly lonely… but people are far more resilient than they think.”

Nicole spoke about the courage she sees every day – from those going through treatment, to the families and friends who stand beside them. She also highlighted the importance of local, community-based support for people on a cancer journey.

At West Wimmera Health Service, we’re proud to offer local cancer support – walking alongside people, carers and families through some of life’s hardest moments.

πŸ‘‰ Contact our Intake Team on (03) 5391 4222 and ask for cancer support.
You can also reach out to Nicole to learn more about our local cancer support groups: [email protected]

πŸ’› Because in our communities, it’s often the simple things that matter most:
βœ” Who shows up
βœ” Who checks in
βœ” Who sits beside you
βœ” Who stays

They might be very special to a little person πŸ’›

If these belong to your child (or someone you know), they have been safely handed in and are now waiting at Main Reception.

πŸ“ Please come by and collect them at your convenience.

πŸ’™ Bowel cancer is preventable β€” and treatable

Every week, 103 Australians lose their lives to bowel cancer β€” but early detection can make a life-saving difference.

When found early, bowel cancer is one of the most treatable cancers.

While risk increases with age, bowel cancer can affect people of all ages β€” so knowing the signs matters.

βœ… What you can do:
β€’ Know your body β€” don’t ignore changes
β€’ Look out for symptoms like blood in your stool, ongoing changes in bowel habits, or unexplained fatigue
β€’ Take part in bowel screening when eligible β€” it’s quick, simple and can save your life
β€’ Talk to your GP if something doesn’t feel right

πŸ’¬ Most bowel cancers can be successfully treated if detected early, making screening one of the most important steps you can take.

πŸ’™ Don’t wait β€” early action could save your life or someone you love.

🌿 National Reconciliation Week | 27 May – 3 June

National Reconciliation Week is a time to reflect, learn and take meaningful action toward reconciliationβ€”strengthening relationships based on truth telling, respect and equality.

At West Wimmera Health Service, we know reconciliation must be supported by real, sustained action:

βœ… Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training is now mandatory for all staff every two years, with 92% compliance achieved quickly across the service.
βœ… We were proud to participate in the Grampians Region Health Service Partnership Aboriginal Health Innovation Initiative, contributing to region wide efforts to strengthen cultural safety and address barriers to care.
βœ… In 2026, we will form a working group to assess our organisation using the Lowitja Institute Cultural Safety Audit Tool, helping guide improvements and embed cultural safety.

This work acknowledges that cultural safety in healthcare remains underdeveloped and that ongoing, community led efforts are essential to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

National Reconciliation Week reminds us that reconciliation is not a one off event, but a continuous journeyβ€”one we are committed to walking together.
