Port Hunter Toastmasters Club has just completed another successful Speechcraft course at Newcastle's Alder Park Sports Club. It is wonderful helping the participants improve their public speaking skills and seeing how they have all developed over the eight week course.

Port Hunter Toastmasters Club recently helped Newcastle University with delivery of a Public Speaking workshop as part of an Immersion Program for 25 high achieving students from Hangzhou Normal University.

The workshop covered key skills including, speech writing, impromptu speaking via Table Topics, speech structure, body language, vocal variety and audience engagement.

The workshop was a great success with very positive feedback from the students and the Universities.

🎉 Congratulations Damien Challen!

Yesterday at the Area 15 Contest, Damien delivered an absolutely sensational performance, walking away with THREE podium finishes:

🏆 1st Place – Table Topics Contest
🏆 1st Place – Humorous Speech Contest
🥈 3rd Place – Evaluation Contest

What an incredible achievement! Damien, your hard work, talent, and dedication are a true inspiration to everyone at Port Hunter Toastmasters. We could not be more proud of you!

Damien's outstanding results means he will now be representing Area 15 at the District 90 Toastmasters Eastern Division Contest

🌟 A Special Mention for Jo!

We also want to give a huge shoutout to Jo, who stepped up and competed in her very first Area Contest yesterday. Jo handled it with grace and performed exceptionally well in the International Speech Contest — and to make the moment even more special, her father was there in the audience watching her compete for the very first time. What a memorable occasion! Jo, you should be incredibly proud of yourself — we certainly are, and we have no doubt this is just the beginning of things to come.

Welcome in 2026 with actioning one of your New Years Resolutions! Port Hunter Toastmasters Club is running another Speechcraft course for anyone who wants to improve their public speaking skills. Speechcraft is also perfect for brushing up on interview techniques to help you further your career. The course starts on 4 February and runs for eight weeks on a Wednesday night (6.30pm to 9pm) at our club meeting place - Alder Park Sports club. Port Hunter Toastmasters is again offering a condensed eight week course to help improve communication and public speaking skills. The course is suitable for anyone wanting to further their career, improve interview performance and improve speaking in a group or public arena.

Wow, what a great time we had last night! We held our annual Humorous Speech and Table Topics competition and the standard of the speeches was very high.

The Humorous competition was won by Damien Challen with a speech titled "What about the time". He related some very funny stories about events that he and his wife have encountered over the years. The competition was close with John Quinn placed second and David Coleman placed third. Well done to everyone who entered the competition and thank you for entertaining us.

The Table Topics competition saw the contestants answering an "off the cuff" question "What's great about tomorrow". It was wonderful to hear how everyone answered the question differently and with their own flair. Damien won this competition with Helen Dawson and Joanne Dovey runners-up.
