Baby bats are starting to come in on the other side of the border, please keep an eye out and message or call us if you find a bat in trouble in southwest Vic 🦇

Another bat pup today, this time a Lesser Long Eared bat. Sadly mum didn’t make it, so the baby is now an orphan. 💔 He’ll be in care for several months, growing and learning to fly until he can be returned home. 🙂

Buy a beautiful bag to boost habitat for our local bent-wing bat 🦇

🦇Each threatened species day, Zoos Victoria highlights a local threatened species through Totes for Wildlife. This year, that species is the critically endangered Southern Bent-wing Bat! Artist Adam Parata has created a beautiful, unique design showcasing SBWB, which has been printed on tote bags that you can find here:
https://www.zoo.org.au/totes/
Proceeds from bag sales will support Eastern Maar Traditional Owners planting native vegetation that supports moths, near important roosts in south-west Victoria.

If you're looking for a new tote bag and/or to support a good cause, look no further!

More details about the project can be found here: https://www.zoo.org.au/totes/

Lucky little Lester was returned to the wild to live out the rest of his life following his unfortunate run in with a cat in March. Since he had to be kept still to allow his wings to heal, he needed a little bit of flight practice before release to build up his muscles beforere going home. Thanks to WIRES National Grants Program Lester had a large flight aviary and wild caught moths to build his strength up in - look at him go!

What a difference a month can make! Lester the lesser long-eared bat has completely healed after a month in care, and is now building up his flight muscles for release 🤞 After a run in with a cat Lester had some unfortunate membrane tears, needed antibiotics and spent some time fattening up and letting his wings heal. It’s incredible how well this tear healed in just a month. 🦇

It’s been a slow bat season, but we welcomed our first patient last week. This little lesser long-eared bat had a run in with a cat, but got off lucky without any fatal wounds. He’s spending some time healing, finishing his antibiotics, and chowing down on mealworms. Thank you to the member of public who called him in, and the vet in Portland who came in to help him. If you find a bat in trouble, don’t touch it, call for advice and help 😊 🦇
