New post added at Grampians Cycling - 2015 Grampians Pyrenees business Awards Success!

No win, but a great success at the Grampians Pyrenees business Awards.
We entered the Grampians Pyrenees Business Awards with a lot of faith in our product, and a realistic understanding that we are a new small (very) competing against established, well resourced and innovative companies. When it was announced that Grampians Cycling was a finalist, we thought that achievement was amazing and encouraging in itself. It gave us added confidence that we were justified in our belief in the potential of the Grampians region as a Touring Cyclist Destination and in our maps.

What a wonderful evening the awards dinner was! Congratulations to the organisers for a great evening. Of course for us, the highlight had to be the announcement that Grampians Cycling was a finalist in two categories. Although not winning in the Innovation and Technology category, (congratulations Carey Covers) we were presented with a Certificate of Encouragement.

We would like to thank the Ararat Rural City, Northern Grampians Shire and the Pyrenees Shire for hosting the 2015 Grampians Pyrenees usiness Awards, as well as their sponsors for making the awards possible.

Congratulations to the winners and all finalists in the awards, what a great showcase of what our region has to offer.

While we are thanking people, a big thank you to Those who supported and encouraged us in the early stages of the project, particular thanks to StawellBiz for their assistance, and Chris Waack from Waacks Bakery for his belief and for help contacts.

We actually did it!

Grampians Cycling entered the Grampians Pyrenees Business Awards.
Most likely we are a little new to attempting this, but we sure can use the exposure. Everyone we talk to about this project or show the maps or app to get very excited about what we are trying to do. So Maris & I decided to have a go at the awards and the judges were all very encouraging. But we are a new start up company, and don't have the runs on the board that some of the more established businesses do.

What we do have is a massively strong belief that this project could make a real, valuable and tangible contribution to the tourism industry in our region.

So we need your encouragement (and your vote) in the Peoples Choice Award, please click on the image below or follow the link and vote for us in position 1.

WILDFLOWER SEASON IN THE GRAMPIANS.

In preparation for updating GRAMPIANS CYCLING, cycling and walking maps, I decided to field check and geo reference the walk down from Boroka Lookout to Halls Gap, a distance of some 6 kms. My friend James dropped me off at the lookout which has an altitude of 850 metres. As I started my journey, I realized the wildflowers are out in the Grampians. The wildflowers are small, delicate but colourful. To see the intricate detail one must get up close. On my way down, I photographed some 15 different flowers in 3.5 kms to Mt Victory Rd. The path for the most part is narrow, rough and uneven though well defined. It is mostly downhill with small uphill climbs to cross ridges. The path traverses the escarpment with changing views looking down on Halls Gap and across the valley to the MT WILLIAM RANGES. It is very interesting to look down on CHATAUQUA PEAK and I spent time looking at the western slope of the WONDERLAND RANGE with its weathered rock layers. It is not an easy walk down and my Nordic Walking poles helped immensely. Going up must be a tough walk. The geo referenced path will be incorporated into the new version of the GRAMPIANS CYCLING Halls Gap Village PDF map in the next couple of weeks.

When I was told that climbing in the Grampians would get me "Flat Buns" I don't think this was what they meant. However flat or not Waacks Bakery's Hot Cross buns still tasted great. Thanks Chris!
