AusAlert is being tested in Coastal townships (Cooya Beach, Newell and Wonga Beach) at 2:00 pm on Tuesday 16 June 2026

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system in communities across Australia.

At around 2:00 pm on Tuesday 16 June 2026, AusAlert community testing is happening between Cooya Beach and Wonga Beach, Far North Queensland. If youโ€™re in or near this location at the time of the test, you may receive a test alert on your mobile phone, tablet or smart watch.

The AusAlert test in your area is a Priority Alert. It will vibrate and include a loud siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds. If receiving the test could disrupt you or cause you or someone you know to feel unsafe, visit the AusAlert website at ausalert.gov.au to find out how to turn a Priority Alert off on your device.

As this is just a test, you donโ€™t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.

Today our students participated in National Simultaneous Storytime where our amazing commentators Jeff (Eleanor) and Gary (Oscar) shared the story of Luna Roo, a beautiful story of resilience, courage, and teamwork. Our students were very perceptive in picking up on these messages. A very big thank you to our amazing Miss Lexi and Mrs Leyden who set the scene for todayโ€™s reading. Special thanks to Eleanor and Oscar for their reading today, our students loved it.

Dear Mossman State School families, due to significant sorry business in our community, we've made the decision to postpone a number of school extra curricular activities over the next few weeks, including the school-based Kunbul Art Exhibition, cultural dancing, and the Games of the People Festival. Our deepest sympathies are with all our families impacted by this tragedy.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
