🐰✨ Something curious hopped into Mossman Library… ✨🐰

Last week our staff slipped through a secret garden gate and straight into Peter Rabbit’s world.
Ears appeared… mysterious props surfaced… and suddenly the library was full of berry‑hunters, veggie‑bandits and one very wise, very beardy garden guardian.

We’re not saying mischief happened — but we’re also not not saying it did.

𝐃𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐬 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲

Douglas Libraries have filmed a collection of raw and emotional stories about floods, disasters and how people in our community came together to support and help one another during and after the historical 2023 floodwaters receded.

Together with State Library of Queensland and filmmaker Suzie Cray from eMotion video, Douglas Libraries have created short videos where local people have shared their visceral experiences.

The project’s goal is to help people learn how to be disaster ready, know that it is okay to ask for help, feel connected to their community and build resilience. This special archive also makes sure these important stories are not forgotten.

📚✨ What an amazing Author Talk at Mossman Library on Saturday!

We were delighted to welcome author Jacki McNab and illustrator Heather Stewart, who shared their beautiful new children’s book, Astrid of Skaldvik — a wonderful story celebrating inclusion, communication and the Deaf community. 💛

It was a lovely morning filled with insightful questions and meaningful conversations. 🐦📖✨

What a special morning at our final Multicultural Storytime session! We were joined by some very special guests - students and staff from Mossman State School who co-authored this incredible new publication.

The young authors read a section of Kuku Yalanji Seasons to an enthusiastic local audience before proudly donating a copy to the Mossman Library.

The celebrations continued with songs led by Nan Jan, followed by colouring and face-painting to round off a truly wonderful morning.

A huge congratulations to all the young co-authors! Their donated copy is now available to view at Mossman Library, so drop in and read this beautiful story of Kuku Yalanji seasons for yourself. 📚✨
