The City of Busselton is delighted to announce that Ms Annie Riordan has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer, commencing in the role on 24 August 2026.

Ms Riordan brings extensive experience in local government leadership. She has served as Chief Executive Officer of the Shire of Harvey for the past eight years and, prior to that, held executive roles with the Shire of Augusta Margaret River for eight years. She has also held senior local government positions in South Australia.

Ms Riordan has made a significant contribution to the sector more broadly, including as President of Local Government Professionals WA, the leading professional association for the industry, and she continues to contribute as a Board member. Her professional qualifications include being a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA), a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and she holds a Master of Business Administration.

Mayor Phill Cronin said:

โ€œFollowing an intensive and comprehensive recruitment process, Ms Riordan was selected to lead the City into a new era of development and community service provision.โ€

โ€œMs Riordanโ€™s strong knowledge of the South West community and industry places her in a unique position to quickly transition into the CEO role at the City of Busselton.โ€

โ€œThe Council has set an ambitious suite of goals and future projects as outlined in the Council Plan. Over the next five years, Ms Riordan will be focused on revenue generation, delivering excellence with project planning and strategic advocacy to enable the City to deliver critical community infrastructure for the future. I look forward to working with Ms Riordan as she joins the City and embraces the challenges ahead.โ€

Lest we forget. Great to see such large attendance at the Dawn Service this morning to show our respect.
Both services were attended by thousands of respectful attendees, and I condem those who chose such a sacred day to demonstrate their disrespect.

Well it's not everyday you get to celebrate someone's 107th Birthday, but today I joined Joan Harlow with her family, friends, neighbours as well as Peter from Legacy, Chris the President of Busselton RSL, Libby Mettam and helpers from Capecare. A tasty lunch at Kyst (free meal if you're 105 or over!) And then thanks to Lisa Shreeve and all at the Busselton Jetty for Joan's private viewing of the Marine Discovery Centre!... Joan had an amazing Birthday, and a great cake!

BUSSELTON Jetty Inc will contribute a record $1.794 million to Jetty maintenance this financial year, mostly from Underwater Observatory and Train ticket sales to tourists, ensuring the 160-year-old heritage listed icon is here for future generations to enjoy.

BJI Chair Dr Natasha Teakle presented half of the annual funding to City of Busselton Mayor Phill Cronin at the first Jetty board meeting of the year.

Dr Teakle said record visitation for the bucket list UWO, one of six natural aquariums the world, had spearheaded the increased contribution.

"The Jetty punches above its weight in the tourism industry and our not-for-profit organisation works extremely hard to give back to the Jetty, the community and the environment," she said.

"We are selling just over 410,000 tickets per year during opening hours and 25 percent of those ticket sales go back to the City's Jetty Maintenance Reserve.

"BJI puts aside surplus funds to develop new experiences like our Marine Discovery Centre, Underwater Sculpture Park and free community events such as The Jetty that Nearly Wasn't show.

"We also fund new projects like our Marine Pharmacology sponge cancer research with UWA and the Harry Perkins Institute, our Pilbara School Visits and International Virtual Schools marine program with Rio Tinto."

Cr Cronin said the South West's signature attraction operates under a unique business model which saw just over 70 percent of funds required for its upkeep paid by tourist revenue.

"The Busselton foreshore development has also produced significant income from restaurant and hotel leases going to the Jetty Maintenance Reserve," he said.

"Tourism supports around 30,000 jobs in the City, and the Jetty attracts significant international and interstate visitation that delivers strong economic benefits to the local area."

"The City is working with BJI on a 20 year Master Plan for the Busselton Jetty to ensure that we continue to protect what makes the Jetty a special place to visit."
