After a long deployment in the Middle East, the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln will dock in Thailand’s resort city of Pattaya this week, raising hopes of an economic boost, even as local authorities cracked down on parts of the s*x tourism destination.

The Abraham Lincoln is due to dock on Wednesday at nearby Laem Chabang, with two accompanying Navy vessels, to allow nearly 5,000 sailors and Marines aboard to rest and recuperate after over 200 days at sea.

The USS Abraham Lincoln will visit Thailand this week. Thai officials are anticipating an economic boost but warning of s*xual exploitation risks.

A U.S. Air Force judge on Wednesday ordered Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the accused mastermind of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, and three co-defendants to go on trial before a military tribunal in June 2028.

The trial-scheduling order entered by Air Force Lt. Col. Michael Schrama marked the latest milestone in a military prosecution beset by two decades of legal deadlock surrounding the four detainees held in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the accused mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, and three co-defendants are slated for a trial before a military tribunal in June 2028.

More than 300 personnel from Navy’s Darwin community gathered on Kuru Wharf, HMAS Coonawarra, on August 21 to mark Navy’s 125th anniversary.

Personnel from Coonawarra, Patrol Boat Group and other Darwin-based units formed a giant ‘125’ on the wharf, creating an aerial image that captured the scale of Navy’s presence in the Northern Territory.

Evolved Cape-class patrol boats HMA Ships Spencer and Hawke were commissioned into service in a ceremony at HMAS Cairns, Queensland, on August 27.

The ceremony established Cape Spencer and Cape Hawke with the designation of His Majesty’s Australian Ships (HMAS), officially recognising their status as commissioned warships in the RAN.

Veterans, families of veterans, health service providers, peak bodies, ex-service organisations and other interested stakeholders are invited to help shape the design of allied health arrangements for Veteran Card holders, with consultation now open.

DVA is seeking feedback on the arrangements announced in the 2026-27 Budget, which are scheduled to begin on 1 July 2027. The proposed changes aim to support Veteran Card holders to continue receiving clinically appropriate allied health care and achieve positive health outcomes.

Japanese destroyer JS Chokai (DDG-176) returned on Sunday to its homeport of Sasebo, Japan, after one year in the U.S. being outfitted to be Tomahawk cruise missile capable.

Chokai departed Sept. 25, 2025, from Yokosuka Naval Base for San Diego following pre-deployment training and preparation. Crew training and modification work on the destroyer for Tomahawk operations began in October with the modification work completed in late March, USNI News reported. Chokai conducted a live firing of a Tomahawk missile on July 29, validating the crew and ship’s ability to operate the missile.

Q-CTRL announced what it called a world-first field demonstration where it successfully navigated a maritime vessel without GPS using a new form of software-ruggedised quantum gravimeter.
