The Multicultural Sudanese Centre (MSC) is the Community Organisation of the New & emerging Sudanese Community in Victoria. The MSC was incorporated in 2002 to meet the needs of the growing Sudanese refugee population following the Sudanese Civil War (1982-2025). In the last twenty years, the MSC has expanded its activities to support Sudanese Victorians in a wide range of social services: driver
education, housing support services, Centrelink advocacy, accompanying community members on medical visits, running its own English and Arabic classes, school holiday activity programs, basketball and soccer activities, women's activity and cultural activities. The MSC run Homework Club program for primary and secondary school students to assist them in areas of Mathematics, Arabic, English. The MSC run after hours Arabic language classes helps students maintain communication with their parents, and aids contact with relatives overseas, such as their grandparents. In addition, the Program provides on-going support through the writing and reading of stories, and activities in music and art. The Program also provides families with information in their own language about the students' progress. Community Support & Empowerment
o. Support and empower Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) families and their children by providing inclusive programs, recreation, and learning opportunities that promote belonging, wellbeing, and community connection.
2. Access to Services:
o. Collaborate with mental health providers, housing services, education institutions, and legal services to ensure community members have equitable access to support. Assist with referrals, translation, and advocacy to bridge cultural and language barriers.
3. Promote intergenerational engagement:
• Family fun days with sports, music, and food.
• Youth leadership sports programs to build confidence and belonging.
• After-school recreation programs, mix sport, homework help, and cultural exchange.
4. Education & Capacity Building
o. Facilitate workshops, training, and mentoring to enhance skills, leadership, and opportunities for young people and families. Promote cultural awareness programs that encourage understanding and respect across diverse groups.
