Today I had the privilege of attending the ANZAC Service at Mandurah Primary School, a deeply moving and reflective gathering that brought together students, families, veterans, and community members in a shared act of remembrance.
From the moment the service began, there was a quiet reverence across the grounds. The stillness carried a weight of respect, as young voices spoke with sincerity and courage, recounting the stories and sacrifices that shape our national identity. It was powerful to see the next generation not only learning about our history, but honouring it with such genuine understanding.
I was honoured to stand among Cr. Dave Schumacher, representatives from the Mandurah RSL and our amazing community members, all of us united in acknowledging the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country.
One of the most poignant moments came during the raising of the flags. As they slowly ascended, catching the morning light, there was a collective pause. You could feel the emotion in the air. The silence was profound, broken only by the soft movement of the flags and the quiet reflection of those gathered. It was a moment that seemed to transcend generations, connecting past and present in a powerful tribute.
Services like this remind us of the importance of community, of remembrance, and of carrying forward the legacy of those who gave so much. It was an honour to be part of such a meaningful occasion.
