A smoke alarm that doesn't work is just a plastic disc on the ceiling. 💁‍♂️

Test yours every month. If it doesn't beep, replace the battery. 🔋
If it's older than 10 years, replace the alarm. ‼️

This Volunteers Week, Lennox Head Rural Fire Brigade would like to thank the efforts of our members (former and currently serving), other local NSW RFS brigades and brigades across the state.

We would also love to acknowledge our fellow volunteer emergency services in the Ballina Shire and the surrounding area in general. Marine Rescue Ballina, NSW SES Ballina and Surf Life Saving Australia and other volunteer organizations who were not pictured.

Your efforts are seen and felt every day.

On the Sea, Surf, Floodwater and Fireground our members will always be there when they are needed.

Thank you to all the Unit Commanders who assisted in organising and approving this group photo. 💛
As well as Fortem Australia for assistance. 🤍

One Team, Many Uniforms. 💛🧡💙💛

Smoke alarms, unlike wine, do not age well over time.

Did you know that most smoke alarms have a use-by date? Some modern smoke alarms have a life-span of up to ten years and may not have a battery to change, making it easy to forget how long since they’ve been installed.

Remember to regularly clean and test your alarms, and check the use-by date to help keep track of their age.

Meet the brigade no. 6

First Name: Geoff

Rank: Firefighter (formerly Deputy Captain and Captain)

How long have you been in the brigade?
44 years, across several brigades

What is your role within the brigade?
Various roles with the brigade including training, maintenance, community awareness programs, and helping to welcome new and younger members into the brigade.

What is your favourite memory from your time within the NSW RFS?
As deputy captain of a communications brigade I gained experience running the control room.
Using those experiences in various campaigns fires including Canberra in 2003.

Why did you join the NSW RFS?
Wanted to give back to the community.

Why do you think someone should join the NSW RFS?
The service is always evolving, the trucks are so much more advanced and safer, technology is constantly evolving to help us better respond to emergencies and the NSW RFS is just an amazing organisation to be a part of.

As we move into the colder months, fire agencies often see an increase in house fires as residents use their fireplaces and heaters to stay warm. With temperatures dropping and possible snow forecast across parts of the state in the coming days, it’s important you know how to stay safe.

Remember, you won’t smell smoke while you’re asleep, so make sure your bleeping smoke alarms are working. A working smoke alarm can save your life and give you and your family valuable time to escape a burning home.
