He was part of the Mid Coast team for many years. Rest in Peace, Steve.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Steve Farrell this week after his long illness.

He was surrounded by loving family and friends to the end.

Steve, a life member and former Brigade Captain, joined the Brigade in 1999. Our members have very fond memories of Steve and his family. He was a mentor to so many of our members and the Brigade would not be what it is today without him being in it.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

Proud to be able to fly the Australian flag 🇦🇺 at our station today. Happy Australia day everyone.

It’s almost time for Santa to hit the streets of Johns River and Stewarts River. Santa has sent us an email and he is expected to commence his rounds in the village starting at 6pm on Tuesday, 23rd December. He will have the usual lollies and zooper doopers for all the good children (young and old). Santa is also keen to look at the Christmas lights display around the village, so it’s not too late to enter, with a chance to win some excellent prizes.
Stayed tuned for details of where Santa is going on the 23rd.

We are sad to confirm the name of the firefighter who was killed by a falling tree at a fireground on the NSW Mid North Coast on Sunday night.

John Lohan, aged 59, was a treasured and long-serving staff member who was based at the Lake Munmorah depot for almost 30 years.

John was an experienced firefighter who was deployed to fires across the state and was working as a Divisional Commander. He lost his life while undertaking a critical leadership role on the fireground, ensuring the safety of his firefighters and the community.

John’s family have provided the following statement:

We would like to thank the general public for their kind words, condolences and support during this difficult time. We are also deeply grateful to John’s coworkers for their compassion and strength, and we extend a heartfelt thank you to the men and women of the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Their ongoing contributions to our community often go unrecognised, and we truly value the role they play on the front line every day.

The news of John’s passing has come as a profound shock to us all. John was a great father, loving brother, and wonderful friend to everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

We kindly ask that our family’s privacy be respected as we navigate this heartbreaking time. Thank you.

Johns River Brigade members offers our condolences the family and friends of the NPWS fire fighter who lost his life at the Bulahdelah fire last evening. Our crews have been working at that fire also and know the risks inherent in what we do. We are thinking of his family and wish all brigades working on this fire a safe journey whilst serving the community and on the way home.
