Fatality Free Friday event, Springfield
This Friday, May 29, the Ipswich Road Safety Committee, alongside Springfield Police and Ipswich District Highway Patrol, will host an interactive road safety display at Orion Springfield Central from 10am to 2pm to mark Fatality Free Friday.
The event will feature road safety information and hands-on educational activities, including a driver simulator and vision impairment goggles, giving visitors a practical understanding of how impaired or distracted driving affects performance behind the wheel.
Fatality Free Friday is a national initiative that encourages all road users, from pedestrians to heavy vehicle drivers, to make safer choices on the road.
Attendees are encouraged to reflect on their driving behaviours and recommit to simple, life-saving actions that help prevent road trauma.
Slow down, avoid distractions, never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, wear a seatbelt, and donβt drive tired.
The impact of road trauma extends far beyond a single incident, affecting not only those involved but also their families, friends and the wider community, who are left to cope with lasting emotional, physical, psychological and financial consequences.
Events like this play an important role in raising awareness and encouraging safer choices on our roads.
While Fatality Free Friday serves as a powerful reminder, police stress that road safety must be a commitment made every day.
Queenslanders are urged to pause and consider the choices they make each time they get behind the wheel, because every choice you make behind the wheel, matters.
