Hi everyone,
We thought it was time for a quick update from the orchard here at Frankham Figs in Dulcot.
As expected, the fig season is running a little late this year. At this time last season we were already well into picking, but so far this year we’ve only found a handful of ripe fruit on the trees.
That said, the few figs we have picked are probably some of the best we’ve grown.
In our cool Tasmanian climate, when the fruit takes longer to mature it often develops a deeper sweetness and richer flavour.
It’s looking promising for the season ahead.
We’re thinking it may be about another week before we start to see any real volume coming through, and once it starts they should come on steadily.
We’ll keep posting regular updates as the season unfolds so you can follow along with how things are progressing in the orchard.
And don’t forget — the café at Frankham Figs is now open in Dulcot and will be running through the harvest season, serving great coffee, food, and fresh figs as they start coming in.
The first proper pick of the season isn’t far away now.
We will keep you posted...fingers crossed for a great season.
Cheers
P&T
