Please note that if you have caught/picked up an animal, you may drop it to your nearest vet free of charge and with no obligations, where they will assess the animal and then contact their local wildlife shelter. An address of where the animal was found is very important so please have this if possible. This shelter is run by volunteers and is entirely self-funded. Donations/fundraisers are relied upon to help cover costs such as medications and veterinary assistance, food, equipment and travel expenses.

A delightful update this evening, thank you so much Scott for sending me the photos ♡

One month ago, I undertook a very tricky rescue to untangle this very large and very stressed kangaroo from fencing rope (at Narrawong). His minor wounds were treated at the time and he was released.

Today he showed up again with his mob, moving fine, albeit still with some visible rub marks on his legs.
What an absolutely handsome boy ♡♡
So pleased to hear he is moving fine and looking fantastic!

An unusal case this morning, with a call coming in about a koala stuck on a dead tree branch in the Grange Burn, under the Ballarat Road bridge. There is a walking path that runs along the Grange river and under this bridge, so luckily she was spotted and called in by the lovely Fiona and her husband.

I have no idea how the koala came to be in the river, nor how long she'd been stuck there, so I decided it was best to get her into care for observation.

Kelly met me there. There was really no way to undertake this rescue without getting into the water, and Kelly volunteered to take the plunge. Thanks Kelly!!

We had the koala out after around 15 minutes, and she has gone into care, thanks Kelly for transporting. She has a tiny joey in her pouch too, so fingers crossed they will both be ok. The koala just seemed exhausted, with no injuries or ill health noted.

A lovely couple walking past who stopped to watch us undertake the rescue even donated some money, which I promptly handed to Kelly since she was the one who braved the cold water 😂

On Sunday I assisted two lovely rescuers, Hayley and Huib, with a Wedge-tailed Eagle rescue that was called in to Wildlife Victoria.
This is one of a handful of animals that we require rescuers to have lots of experience with before attempting rescues on their own.
The eagle had been spotted in a paddock, not flying. Huib had done some reconnaissance and located the eagle again for us the next morning ♡

Practical experience was gained in:
~ assessing the local terrain and forming a plan of how to approach the eagle and from which direction
~ learning how fast they can run 😂
~ netting vs blanketing
~ handling technique and restraining of legs for safety
~ assessing for injuries

Unfortunately this eagle had a wing break through a joint and would never fly again, so he was euthanized as per Victorian laws and regulations.

There's been some shuffling and upgrading of possum spaces in this last week, with Brushtail joeys Linley and Stelvie getting moved into larger cages inside and two Ringtail joey creches being moved into aviaries outside. They are all enjoying their room upgrades ♡♡

Lazy day today for these two, while the kids and I were busy putting together an aviary. They are so sweet ♡

In Feb and March I received two injured Kreffts Gliders. They both needed time in care to heal, and were both juveniles. Despite being from two different locations, it made sense to buddy them up, as they are communal animals. They bonded well, and it was finally time to release them about 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately as soon as I tee'd up their release site, the terrible windy, cold and wet weather set in for the next 10 days. I was finally ready to try again yesterday, and off they went.

The chosen site is not too far from glider #1's home, which is nice. A huge thank you to the Thompson family ~Jodie, Thommo, Coen and Lachlan~ from Thommos Home & Garden Service for allowing me to do a slow, supported release of the gliders on their beautiful property ♡♡

Snugglebug Suzie, Rednecked Wallaby, fast asleep in my lap (photo taken before their relocation last weekend).
Rednecked Wallabies were the first joeys I ever cared for, and I have a deep love for this species of macropod.
Rednecked Wallabies can be cheeky, but they are also very affectionate and have a much calmer air to them than their wallaby cousins, Swamp Wallabies. Swamp Wallabies are like the naughty children, hooning around and forever getting into mischief 😄
