The society has just completed one of the most inspirational projects we have done in our 30 years of operation. Four members of the society volunteered to participate in a project with the Hilltop Road Public School. A young male teacher from the school asked us to attend the school and talk to year 3 students about what we do. The PBL (Project Based Learning) for the students was only one part of the year for year 3. We fronted up and were interviewed by four professional 9-year-olds, were videotaped. Yesterday we were invited back to see the result of their work. It was impressive, they had worked with the group and their class and produces drawings of each other, they produced a book of what they had learned by working in a group and had photos on easels, putting on a huge display yesterday, with a cup of tea and cake to thank the groups who had participated in the "Faces in our Community".
There learning was interesting and worthwhile one word that came from the group was the word "compromise". The day was inspiring because the nine year olds were using a microphone like professionals (I did not do that until well in my thirties). The students had invited a lot of people from the area from Gymnastics, Craft such as knitting groups, as diverse as the Holroyd Dramatic and Musical Society, and many others such as our Historical Society and Granville Men,s Shed with Lena and Michael.
Congratulations to Year 3, teachers and the principal for this project, the school has done a very good PBL, learning skills of working in a group, as well as what is in the Cumberland Area.Well done Hilltop Road Public School. https://www.facebook.com/HilltopRoadPublicSchool/
