SLOW DOWN AROUND TOW TRUCKS WITH FLASHING LIGHTS.
Australia, motorists are required to exercise caution when approaching stationary tow trucks or roadside assistance vehicles displaying flashing amber lights.

These “slow down and move over” regulations are designed to protect roadside workers and stranded motorists by reducing the risk of collisions in active roadside environments.

Specific requirements may vary slightly between states and territories, so drivers should refer to official guidance provided by agencies such as Transport for NSW or VicRoads for the most up-to-date information.

On roads where the posted speed limit is 80 km/h or lower, drivers are generally required to reduce their speed to 40 km/h when passing emergency, breakdown assistance, or tow vehicles with flashing yellow lights activated.

Motorists must also remain alert to workers operating near the roadway and should only resume normal speed once they have safely passed the scene.

For roads with speed limits of 100 km/h or above, there is a mandatory requirement to slow to 80 km/h.

Please also be aware that motors are expected to move into another lane to provide additional clearance for the stopped vehicle and workers.

Tow truck operators must also comply with specific speed regulations.

In Australia, a tow truck or any towing combination with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) exceeding 4.5 tonnes is generally restricted to a maximum speed of 100 km/h, regardless of whether the posted highway limit is higher.

Within built-up areas, the standard default speed limit of 50 km/h applies unless otherwise signposted.

We all need to share the road safely and responsibly. If you come across a tow truck driver with the Amber lights on assisting another motorist, please slow down safely and move across to the next lane.

Most of Glenugie RFS area doesn’t have mains water so we haven’t got hydrants to rely on for water supplies. That means that it’s often important that we can get water from people’s dams, creeks or even swimming pools when we need it quickly to continue fighting a fire. If you have a good water supply with easy access for a 14 tonne fire truck then please consider getting a small SWS sign to place on your gatepost. Ring 6644 5135 to arrange it. 🙏🏼🚒 see below for further details.

The Static Water Supply (SWS) Program is a free service that enables residents to help local firefighters by identifying existing water supplies (such as dams, tanks or swimming pools) on their property that could be used for firefighting purposes.

As we move into the colder months, fire agencies often see an increase in house fires as residents use their fireplaces and heaters to stay warm. With temperatures dropping and possible snow forecast across parts of the state in the coming days, it’s important you know how to stay safe.

Remember, you won’t smell smoke while you’re asleep, so make sure your bleeping smoke alarms are working. A working smoke alarm can save your life and give you and your family valuable time to escape a burning home.

Happy St Florian’s Day to our fellow firefighters around the world and congratulations to those RFS members recognised in today’s Awards, especially our fellow Clarence Valley members from Tyringham, Woombah and Lawrence. 🙏🏼🚒

Yes, we had a welcome drop of rain last night, 16mm at our airport, but a couple of showers won’t break a drought. 🙏🏼🚒
