The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast the possibility of thunderstorms across Northern Rivers, Coffs and Clarence government areas starting tomorrow and continuing over the weekend.

Thunderstorm activity is forecast to bring localised heavy rainfall to some areas leading to flash flooding and residents are asked to be prepared. Please remember exact location of storms is hard to predict this far out.

Download the Hazards Near Me app or NSW SES website to stay across warnings as they are issued or updated.

NSW SES is getting ready to respond to any storm impacts and asks the community to:
⚡ Tie down loose items outside their homes
🏠 Clear their gutters and trim any overhanging branches
🚗 Move their car undercover or away from trees and powerlines
💧 If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternative route. Steer clear of floodwater.
☎️📞If you require assistance in floods or storms, call 132 500. In life threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000).

School’s out for another year, and the six-week holiday period has officially begun ☀️

Whether you’re travelling locally, heading overseas, or spending time at home, please remember to take steps that help keep you and your loved ones safe.

⛅️ Always check the weather forecast so you know what to expect both at home and at your destination. Make sure your home is prepared for changing conditions.
Remember - it's Storm Season, and afternoon thunderstorms are likely to make a few appearances.
Secure loose items in your yard before a storm, and park vehicles away from trees and powerlines.

📲 Monitor the Hazards Near Me app or the NSW SES website for up-to-date weather warnings and information

🚗 Heading out on the roads? plan your trip using Live Traffic NSW and drive to conditions.

🥾 If you’re travelling into remote areas, hire a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) so emergency services can locate you quickly if needed.

🔥 In the summer months, there is an increased risk of fire danger. Follow the NSW Rural Fire Service for current fire information and advice.

Take care over the holiday period.

Thankyou to our amazing community who step up to be SES members.

In 2025, 4.9 million people in NSW stepped up to volunteer for a cause.

More than 11,000 of them were our members in orange, heading out into every storm and flood 🧡

Today, on International Volunteer Day, we celebrate those who selflessly give back to their communities. Whether it’s a shift at a Bunnings barbecue for the local kids’ sports club or preparing for a tropical cyclone, volunteers are an invaluable part of NSW - and the world.

To all volunteers everywhere: thank you. You inspire us every day.

Grafton and surrounds severe weather
Stay indoors
Watch and Act

The NSW SES is advising people in the following area(s) to STAY INDOORS due to heavy rainfall, damaging winds, giant hailstones, Flash flooding:
- Grafton
- Coutts Crossing
- Ulmarra
You should monitor the situation as it is constantly changing.

What are we expecting?
The Bureau of Meteorology advises a warm and humid airmass is combining with a southerly wind change and a low-pressure trough to trigger severe thunderstorms across northeast of the state this afternoon. Severe thunderstorms are generally moving to the north and northeast and are expected to continue throughout the remainder of the afternoon.

VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce large, possibly giant hailstones, damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Northern Rivers district.

This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.

View the full warning: https://hazardwatch.gov.au/a/SehQQW
Download the Hazards Near Me App and set up ‘Watch Zones’ to receive warnings in real time. https://www.nsw.gov.au/emergency/hazards-near-me-app

For emergency assistance during a flood, storm or tsunami, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In a life-threatening emergency, call Triple Zero (000).
