School Fire 4/5/2026

At approximately 5am this morning P253, T253, P362a (Lismore), Casino RFS were responded to a school fire at the Casino High School.

On arrival crews were confronted with a developing fire in a class room, firefighters quickly got to work to contain the fire. A single class room was severely damaged by the fire but the attached music room was saved due to the quick actions of our firefighters.

H316 (Goonellabah Hazmat) was also requested to assist.

Unfortunately the school will be closed today due to safety concerns around the fire site.

Lest we forget.

Before the sun rises, we remember.
Our ranks have long been shaped by military service. Firefighters who served in the World Wars, and in the conflicts and humanitarian crises since. The skills, the discipline, and the Anzac spirit carry across. Many never returned. Their names, and their sacrifice, are part of who we are. It is a connection that runs between our service and theirs, and one that continues to this day.

Lest we forget.

EVERYDAY HEROES: Meet firefighter Nahanni Cox

Nahanni is an absolute super mum to her two boys and works as a Sales Administrator at LJ Ho**er, whilst also working as an On-Call Firefighter at Goonellabah Fire Station. She’s not just a hero at home and at work, she’s our hero too.

This morning, our crew responded to two fire alarms and a gas leak before all before 9am. When our pagers sound, our firefighters often leave work or home at a moment’s notice to protect the community.

We’d like to thank our crew’s family and primary employers, including LJ Ho**er Ballina , for their ongoing support and understanding of the On-Call firefighter role. Without that support, we wouldn’t be able to respond when our community needs us most.

When you support their business, you’re helping keep our community safe.
