Sunshine Bloom is the latest sculpture to be added to Holdfast Bay's growing collection of public art.

The pair of yellow flowers, one of which stands 2.6 metres tall, were crafted by Chris Murphy and are part of this year's Brighton Jetty Sculptures exhibition.

Each year, Council's Public Art Advisory Group selects a piece to buy and put on public display for all to enjoy and this year the panel selected the bright yellow flowers which are made of Corten and mild steel.

While a location is yet to be selected for Sunshine Bloom, it will join more than 80 public artworks on display across the city, which includes sculptures, murals and integrated art installations.

The Brighton Jetty Sculptures exhibition runs until Sunday 1 February 2026.

It's been an honour to serve on the Australia Day Awards Committee during my term of Council. Each year I have had the privilege of reading about so many dedicated and passionate members of community who give their time, heart and expertise to make the City of Holdfast Bay such a wonderful place to live, work and visit.

Congratulations to all the award recipients, to those who were nominated and to all the people who give tirelessly for our community. You are all appreciated and shining examples of what it means to be Australian and an active part of a community.

A warm welcome also to our newest citizens who took their pledge on Australia Day having chosen the City of Holdfast Bay as their home and chased the dream of being Australian.

The stormwater drainage network under Jetty Road was old and compromised in many sections. Others were filled with tree roots and obstructions. It was a logical step to combine these essential works with the upgrade at street level as part of the Transforming Jetty Road project.

Several months ago I brought a motion to council to advocate for a review of long term parking of large vehicles on local roads, which was supported unanimously.

This is a growing concern right across metropolitan Adelaide and something I’ve heard from many residents about.

We’re asking the state government and Emily Bourke, Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, to take this seriously, particularly in light of their planning and design code which allows for greater infill development, smaller blocks and less off street parking.

Local Government Association of South Australia

Read the letter sent to Transport and Infrastructure Minister Emily Bourke, regarding long-term parking of vehicles on council roads and a request to consider legislative reform.
