Excellence in Education Awards

On Tuesday 16th June, the Rotary Club of Lower Blue Mountains held their annual Excellence in Education Awards at Leonay Golf Club.

The evening was a vibrant celebration of Secondary Teachers and Schools in our local area. The dedication of each of the candidates, and their rapport with their fellow staff and the students was highlighted in the citations read by the School representatives.

All in attendance enjoyed the entertainment provided by the quartet from the Nepean Creative and Performance Arts High School.

The raffle held on the night was popular and raised $305. The meal was enjoyable.

Congratulations to Michael H, Leigh J and their team for a very successful evening. Thank you also to Trish Doyle MP, Member for Blue Mountains, for her address and her assistance with the presentations.

Imagine travelling to isolated villages throughout Papua New Guinea to test and train communities on malaria management and eradication. Rotarians in PNG (PNG Rotary against Malaria) in partnership with the PNG government have been training support workers to visit these villages. They travel by motorbikes, bicycles and by foot,
They have been receiving funding from Sustainable Development Fund and today at the Rotary International Convention we heard the announcement that the Gates Foundation is expanding its support for Rotary Healthy Communities to PNG.
