01.03.2022 A RICHMOND BIRDWING BUTTERFLY (Ornithoptera richmondia) FEMALE - AGAIN AT 10.30 am - for on second on a TIBOUCHINA urvilleana flower - also called Princess Flower.

The wonders of nature!
The Richmond Birdwing Butterfly is endangered!
Thank you for looking and sharing.

The RBB is Australia's largest and beautiful butterfly, with a wingspan of up to 16 cm (6.29 inches) in females and 13 cm (5.11 inches) in males.
This female has a wingspan of 18 cm - amazing.

02.02.2019 After month of checking every day - if there is any activity - I discovered this today!
MISSED IT!!!!!!
About 8 m high up - the empty "Chrysalis" was on the Umbrella Tree leaf. The leaf must have been turned the other way - so no wonder I did not spot it - regardless of photographing every angle and searching! Sorry I cannot offer more - just the beautiful empty "Home" it was for the beautiful Richmond Birdwing Butterfly - Female or Male we never know!

12.08.2018 Unfortunately there is nothing to report so far this year. The Richmond Birdwing Butterfly vine (Pararistolochia praevenosa) is full of beautiful new shoots and a massive amount of flowers but no visitors 🦋🦋🦋. Last year at the same time I had 22 eggs and eventually 6 caterpillars. So you can imagine my disappointment. All I can offer is the images of the flowers!😥

28.10.2017 Just to let everybody know - that followed the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly Story - that no activity whats-soever is happening in Glasshouse Mountains. Here is this massive vine - new shoots all over the vine, little blossoms and upcoming seed pods - but no visitor that might deposit a little yellow egg! Maybe the know that the Eastern Whipbird pair is still around - checking every bit of vine - every day - so what chance does anybody have. Would have loved to contribute some images again to the RBB Network and for new members to see the beginning of the magic Richmond Birdwing
Butterfly. Cannot wait to see postings from other members. Thank you!

The Richmond Birdwing Butterfly Caterpillar can only munch on young green leafs, the dark green ones are very hard and poisonous.
