Good evening all, it is with great sadness that Barongarook West RFB announce the passing of life member Peter Bennett, Peter passed away last week after spending his final years in care, the brigade will be doing a guard of honour to pay our respects to Peter and his family who were also members of the brigade, any past brigade members or CFA associates are welcome to join the guard. Good morning all, the burn that we conducted at Wares road has been completed with approximately 80% burn coverage which in the conditions is a great result, the area will be patrolled over the next few days and with rain coming in the next week it will be completely extinguished with no risk of flare ups. Thank you to the residents for your support during this process and we look forward to getting more done when the conditions suit.

Good evening all, tomorrow 29/04/2026 there will be a controlled burn in the
Kawarren/Barongarook area between Wares Rd, Robinsons Rd and Parkes Lodge Rd involving an area of approximately 10 hectares, this burn has been well planned and will have crews on the ground from 09:30 until it is safe to leave, please be aware of CFA vehicles in the area.

What consumers should do:

The 20th April fire restrictions officially come off for Colac Otway Shire, if you are going to do some burning off remember that the danger is still there and you need to have a suitable water source on hand and also please register your burn, it will save us being called out in the big red truck.

Good morning all, as the weather gets milder and the days shorter it is important to know that we are currently still in the “Gazetted” Fire season, restrictions are being lifted all around the state but we are still in the thick of it and no end date has been announced at this time, when restrictions are lifted I will certainly post it here and let you all know.
