Darwin High Student Selected for Chief Minister’s International Study Tour

Congratulations to Darwin High School Year 10 student Ramneet Gill, who has been selected to participate in the Chief Minister’s “Sharing Our History, Securing Future Peace” Study Tour to Okinawa, Japan in June this year.

This prestigious program brings together students from across the Northern Territory to explore the history and legacy of World War II while building a deeper understanding of peace and international relationships.

During the tour, students will be immersed in the military history and culture of Okinawa, visiting significant historical sites, museums and cultural landmarks. The experience provides a powerful opportunity for young people to reflect on the past and consider the importance of cooperation and peace in shaping the future.

We are proud of Ramneet’s selection and look forward to hearing about the insights and experiences gained from this unique international learning opportunity.

⚠️ Boil Water Alert – Greater Darwin & Palmerston

NT Health has issued a boil water alert due to flooding at Darwin River Dam.

Darwin High School remains open and operating as normal. Precautionary measures are in place, including decommissioning all water bubblers.

Students should bring a filled water bottle with enough water for the day. Additional safety measures are in place to keep everyone safe.

We appreciate the community’s understanding and support.

🌟 Celebrating Excellence in Science 🔬✨

We are excited to share that we have recently been notified that Year 10 student Anmar Al-Ibrahim has been recognised as a finalist in last year’s Science Fair, which he completed as a Year 9 student in 2025.

Anmar’s project, Heat Transfer, has been named a top contender for the national iCubed Awards — an exceptional accomplishment.

Out of more than 7,000 projects submitted across the country in 2025, Anmar’s work has been selected as one of the Top 100 finalist projects nationwide. This is a remarkable achievement and a true testament to his dedication, curiosity and scientific thinking.

The national judging panel has been carefully reviewing over 100 finalist projects across multiple year levels and categories. Winners across five categories and three year group divisions (Years 7/8, 9/10 and 11/12) will be revealed during a virtual ceremony next month, with some recipients receiving sponsored cash prizes in recognition of their outstanding scientific work.

Congratulations, Anmar — this is an incredible achievement! 👏🎉

Honouring the 84th Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin

Wednesday 19 February 2026 marked the 84th anniversary of the bombing of Darwin — a significant moment in our city’s history.

Darwin High School has a longstanding tradition of involvement in this important event, and this year 30 of our students proudly attended the Commemoration Service at the Darwin Cenotaph.

Year 12 student Zoe Francis delivered the Ode of Remembrance with poise and respect, honouring those who lost their lives on 19 February 1942. Seven of our student leaders also laid a wreath on behalf of the school, paying tribute to the service and sacrifice of so many.

This was also our first official community event as a 7–12 school, and it was fantastic to have student representatives from all year levels taking part. We are incredibly proud of our students for representing our school community with such maturity, dignity, and reverence on this significant day of remembrance. 🌺
