Back in action! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ’ช

Ahead of last weekโ€™s big storm across Sydney, our teams got together to check, maintain and test our equipment. Come the weekend, crews were out on the ground helping the community. Huge thanks to our volunteers for always stepping up! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿšจ

What a year 2025 has been! We've seen the Burwood team go from strength to strength, responding to a record number of callouts, both in and out of area. Our members, both experienced and new, have shown an unwavering commitment to their community, and communities all around NSW.

We kicked the year off with nearly a week of responding to call outs in the Burwood area following severe storms. Throughout the year, we responded promptly to every request for help that we received from the Burwood community.

On top of that, we saw our members go on deployments all over NSW, responding to Tropical Cyclone Alfred in Northern NSW, and following up with several other state-wide deployments throughout the year.

Many of our members dedicated extra time to expanding their skills, training in land search, flood rescue, participate in rescue operations, advanced first aid, drive operational vehicles and even some introduction to cave rescue training. We also participated in the first annual Inner-West Cluster training exercise, together with Ashfield-Leichardt, Strathfield and Canada Bay Units. We're proud to see our team actively taking initiative to make the Burwood SES one of the best!

Every year, we give out two awards to recognise extraordinary efforts throughout the year. Huge congratulations to Emma, our 2025 Member of the Year, and Caitlin, our 2025 Rookie of the Year!

We've learned many lessons in 2025, and we're excited to make 2026 even better!

From Burwood SES, Happy New Year!

Over the weekend, three of our Burwood SES members headed west to join over
100 volunteers from across NSW for the annual Wellington Wombats event, a two-day adventure of skill-building, teamwork, and camaraderie.

Set in a unique underground environment, the event focused on developing advanced
rope rescue techniques, anchor systems, and confined space navigation, all under the
guidance of experienced facilitators.

Not only did our members sharpen their technical capabilities, but they also built strong connections with fellow volunteers from other units.

Swipe through the photos, it was a weekend full of learning, laughs, and new
friendships!

We have responded to multiple calls for assistance over the past few days of inclement weather.

We're sure that much of the Croydon community would have noticed the large collapsed awning on Croydon Strand! Fortunately, nobody was injured. We were able to remove the road blockage and stabilise the damaged awning above.

As always, we're proud to serve our community!

Oh, we also made the news, no big deal ๐Ÿ˜Ž

If in need of assistance for storm and flood damage, call the NSW SES on 132 500. If it is a life-threatening emergency, always call 000.

A little delayed, but happy International Women's Day! We celebrate the incredible women of Burwood Unit and the NSW SES.

In particular, a huge congratulations to our very own Jan Passmore, who has been named 2025 Woman of the Year for the Strathfield area. You never stop impressing us, Jan!
