Set amongst the beautiful surrounds of the Cooktown Botanic Gardens, the free community event will encourage children and families to connect with nature while enjoying a special morning with their favourite teddy bears.

The Teddy Bear Picnic will feature storytime, music, play activities and plenty of opportunities for children to explore the gardens, enjoy the fresh air and spend time outdoors with family and friends. Morning tea will also be provided for attendees to enjoy during the event.

Families are encouraged to bring along a picnic rug, hats, water bottles and their favourite teddy bear for the morning.

National Reconciliation Week is here, and this year’s theme, All In, is a powerful call to action for every one of us.

Reconciliation is not a spectator sport. It is an ongoing commitment to listening, learning, and showing up for First Nations voices every single day. Whether it’s acknowledging Country, educating ourselves on our shared history, or championing Indigenous-led stories, we all have a role to play.

Here at Cooktown Library, we’re proud to showcase a fantastic display of Indigenous books and works by First Nations authors, celebrating culture, storytelling, history, and connection. We encourage everyone to come in, explore the collection, and support First Nations voices through reading and learning.

This National Reconciliation Week, let’s step off the sidelines and go all in together.
