🚨 SNAKE BITE IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY! 🚑

🔸 A snake bite can be life-threatening, even if the bite looks small or the person feels okay at first.

👉 If someone is bitten by a snake:
• Call 000 immediately (Australia).

• Keep the person calm and as still as possible.

• Do NOT wash, cut, suck, or squeeze the bite.

• Apply a pressure immobilisation bandage.

• Immobilise the bitten limb and keep the person still.

• Do NOT try to catch or kill the snake.

• Wait for emergency medical help.

⚠️ Do not wait for symptoms to appear. Snake venom can cause serious complications, including paralysis, bleeding problems and breathing difficulties.

🐍 A big thank you to Colac Otway Shire! 🐍

A huge thank you to Colac Otway Shire for putting up more warning signs around the lake and along the paths about snakes. 💚

With snake activity increasing as the weather warms up, these signs are a great reminder for everyone using the lake and walking paths to stay alert and give our Wildlife plenty of space.

🐍 What should you do if you encounter a snake?

• Stop and stay calm — don’t panic or make sudden movements.
• Keep your distance and never attempt to touch, chase or move the snake.
• Let the snake move away on its own. Give it a wide berth if you need to pass.
• Keep dogs on a lead and well away from the snake.
• Warn other people nearby so they can safely avoid the area.
• If you’re bitten, call 000 immediately, stay as still as possible and apply a pressure immobilisation bandage if available. Do not wash the bite, cut it, or try to suck out the venom.

Remember, snakes generally want to avoid us too. 🐍 Respect their space, stay aware and enjoy the lake!
