Seniors Recreation Council of WA, in partnership with the City of Stirling, were delighted to present the Healthy Lifestyles Tech Savvy Seniors (TSS) event at the Stirling Leisure Centre in Mirrabooka. The event was expertly MC’d by Ghada Veal, officially opened by City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin, and warmly welcomed by SRCWA State President, Colin Steer.
Attendees enjoyed a range of engaging and informative presentations, including scams prevention and artificial intelligence by SRCWA Technology Manager Martin Yates; E Prescriptions by COTA Western Australia CEO Mark Kinsela; and an overview of the Be Connected Good Things Foundation Australia free technology sessions available at local libraries, presented by Roger Jenkins from City of Stirling Libraries. The sessions were very well received, with plenty of questions and lively discussions throughout.
Participants also appreciated the opportunity to explore a variety of static displays, where they could connect one-on-one with representatives and gather helpful information.

Fun, Friendship and Information at the SRCWA Bunbury’s LiveLighter Seniors Day

The LiveLighter Seniors Activity Information Day in Bunbury was held on Friday, 22nd May 2026, at the South West Sports Complex, and what a wonderful day it was! More than 40 local and regional businesses and organisations came together to share helpful information, offer fun activities, and welcome the more than 400 seniors and community members who joined us.

A heartfelt thank you to our naming rights partner, LiveLighter Healthway, for their valued support. We also sincerely thank the City of Bunbury, Harcourts APG, Have a Go News and the Government of Western Australia for their ongoing support. On the day, attendees enjoyed trying a range of activities, including Walking Football, Seniors Ballet Exercise Classes, Heart Sports, and Pole Walking, to name just a few.

The day began with SRCWA State President Colin Steer welcoming everyone before inviting Jaysen de San Miguel, Mayor of Bunbury, to officially open the event. We truly appreciate your support, Jaysen.

A big thank you to Bunbury Community Radio 103.7 FM for broadcasting live from the event and helping share the excitement of the day.

A special shoutout to the students from SEDA College WA, who encouraged everyone to get involved and “Have a Go.” Your energy and enthusiasm helped make the day even more enjoyable for everyone there.

We’d also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the SRCWA Bunbury Branch, led by Branch President Barbara Fleay, along with her wonderful team of volunteers, whose hard work helped make the event such a success. And a very special thank you to our MC, SRCWA State President Colin Steer, for keeping the day running so smoothly.

We couldn’t have done it without the support of the SRCWA Head Office staff, the South West Sports Centre, and the City of Bunbury. Thank you all for helping everything come together so beautifully.

On Tuesday 19th May 2026, the West Australian Carpet Bowls Association (WACBA) hosted its much-loved annual Patrons Cup Mixed Indoor Bowls Tournament at the Swan Active Beechboro Centre, and what a fantastic day it was!

There was plenty of friendly competition, laughter, and great sportsmanship as 18 teams came together to enjoy the game and each other’s company.

The Seniors Recreation Council of WA was delighted to learn of the outstanding work being facilitated and recognised by the SRCWA Wongan Ballidu Branch. Richard Dermody, SRCWA Branch Liaison Coordinator, spoke to the group, congratulating the SRCWA Wongan Ballidu branch on its strong community engagement and commitment to keeping members informed, safe, connected and for being chosen as the winners of the Shire of Wongan-Ballidu Comunity Group of the Year for 2026.

SRCWA Project Manager Martin Yates delivered a Scam Awareness Workshop on Tuesday 5th May at the Wongan-Ballidu Seniors Recreation Centre, with 20 community members joining us for an informative and interactive session.
The workshop was full of practical, easy-to-use tips, including:

How to create strong, safe passwords
How to recognise common scams
Ways to feel more confident and secure online

SRCWA Head Office Representatives Martin Yates and Richard Dermody, enjoyed sharing knowledge, answering questions, and having a few laughs along the way while helping attendees build skills to better protect themselves when using digital devices and the internet.

Twelve enthusiastic teams rolled into action on Thursday, 30 April 2026, turning the South West Sports Centre into a hub of laughter, colour, and friendly competition. Participants from nursing homes, aged care facilities, and day centres across the region came together for a joyful celebration of movement, connection, and fun-proving that games are for every age!

A huge thank you goes out to Barbara Fleay, President of the SRCWA Bunbury Branch, and her incredible team of volunteers, along with the hardworking staff and volunteers from our Perth head office. Your dedication made this wonderful day possible! Special shoutouts also go to the amazing staff and students from South Regional SEDA and the Department of Justice Trustees, who were absolute legends helping out throughout the day.

We were delighted to have Nola Marino, newly retired Member for Forrest and long-time supporter of the Games, officially open the event. Nola generously took time out to join us, and we sincerely thank her for her continued support of the Bunbury LiveLighter Aged Care Games over the years.

The games were packed with smiles, cheers, and teamwork, featuring activities like modified seated hockey, seated pass ball, beanbag toss, and skittles. One standout moment was the ever-popular carers' game, where representatives from each team jumped in for a playful showdown that had spectators laughing and cheering from start to finish.

Congratulations to all teams for their amazing spirit and sportsmanship. Here are the official results:

Rockingham Have a Go Day 2026 a Live_Lighter event was a vibrant community event designed to encourage people of all ages and abilities to try new activities, connect with local clubs and services, and get involved in their community. The day brought together sporting groups, recreation providers, emergency services, health organisations, and community groups, offering hands-on “have a go” experiences and demonstrations in a welcoming, family‑friendly environment. By promoting active lifestyles, inclusion, and community participation, the event aimed to inspire residents to discover new interests, meet others, and feel confident engaging in local opportunities throughout the year.
