🚑 Last week our Year 10 students had the opportunity to attend the P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth) Program, and what a fantastic experience it was!
Held at Royal Perth Hospital, the program provided students with a powerful, real-world insight into the consequences of risk-taking behaviours and the importance of making informed decisions to keep themselves and others safe.
🏥 A hands-on learning experience
Throughout the day, students:
• Heard from paramedics, doctors, nurses and allied health professionals
• Explored the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Major Trauma Units/Wards
• Participated in interactive activities demonstrating the challenges faced by people recovering from serious injuries
• Heard first-hand accounts from trauma survivors about how a split-second decision changed their lives
The students found the experience highly engaging, informative and hands-on, providing them with a unique opportunity to see the realities of trauma and recovery.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in delivering this important program and giving our students an experience that will hopefully stay with them long after they left the hospital. 💙

🌿 Moorditj Walyan – Strong Lungs 🌿

Today, our Aboriginal students had the opportunity to take part in the Moorditj Walyan (Strong Lungs) program at school, with the presenters visiting us to share their knowledge and yarn with our students.

Moorditj Walyan is a culturally responsive health education program that focuses on the impacts of smoking and va**ng, supporting Aboriginal people to make healthy choices and providing a safe, no-shame space to have open conversations.

Our students learned about:
💨 The effects of smoking and va**ng on health
💬 Having supportive and honest yarns
🧘 Ways to manage stress, cravings and triggers
🌱 Healthy choices and support available to help quit smoking or va**ng

A big thank you to the Moorditj Walyan team for coming to our school, connecting with our students and creating such a positive and culturally safe learning experience.

It was a great opportunity for our students to learn, yarn and strengthen their knowledge around making healthy choices. 💚

🧀✨ Last week, our Year 12 students completed their final practical exam of the year—a fantastic showcase of their skills, teamwork and creativity.
Working together as a class, the students produced an impressive 18 different items, including crackers, breadsticks, preserves, chutneys, poached fruit, fruit leather and more, which were beautifully presented as a charcuterie board.
What made the practical particularly special was the way students supported one another throughout the challenge. Each student took full responsibility for producing different items for the group, while also sharing the costing of each item and helping their classmates navigate the complexities of the cooking process.
It was a wonderful demonstration of collaboration, organisation and practical skills—and a very tasty way to celebrate the hard work of our Year 12s! 👏👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Book Week at Clarkson CHS came to a close with a Book Mark making competition on Thursday, which was won by Jasmin/Chris in Year 12, a Home Room Book Quiz, which was won by Miss Gilmartin's Year 8 Home Room, and our annual Dress Up Day Competition today.

A costume parade was held in Kaartdijin Miya at lunchtime, where students revealed who they dressed up as. Staff and students looked wonderful in an array of outfits from a range of stories.

The winners of the Costume Competition were:
1st place- Rayden (Year 11)
2nd place- Jack (Year 7)
3rd place- Sienna (Year 8)

Last Thursday, teams of students from Somerly, Clarkson and Merriwa Primary Schools took part in the 2026 Clarkson STEM Challenge! 🌱🔬
This year’s theme, Budding Brilliance, challenged students to research Australian native plants, including bush food and medicinal plants, and design a courtyard garden that:
• supports biodiversity
• attracts and protects native wildlife
• is suited to Perth’s climateuses sustainable gardening practices
• helps people learn about Australia’s incredible native plants.
Students measured their allocated area before designing their courtyard gardens using 3D software.
As an added treat, students were invited into the kitchen to sample cakes and brownies made using native ingredients. Yum! 😋
As always, it was an engaging and fast-paced blend of STEM, creativity and culture. The students had a fantastic day while developing practical STEM skills and exploring the incredible potential of Australian native plants. 🌿

This week at Clarkson CHS we have been celebrating Book Week, with activities in Kaartdijin Miya during lunch time and prizes up for grabs. So far, we have had a 'guess the book cover quiz' with Mr Goodwin, a creative writing competition with Mr Champion and a scavenger hunt with Miss de Voogd and the Student Leadership Team. And, we still have more to go, with a bookmark making competition with Mr Badolicha tomorrow and our annual dress up day on Friday.

🧪✨ Science Week Potions! ✨🧪

What better way to celebrate Science Week than with a little bit of "magic"… or should we say, SCIENCE!

At lunchtime this week, students were invited to create their own colourful potions. They experimented with specially prepared potion fizz and combined them with shimmering, magical, colourful water.

Behind all the bubbles, fizz and colour was some very real chemistry! When the fizzing mixture reacted with water, it produced carbon dioxide gas, creating the exciting fizzing and bubbling effect. It was a fun, hands-on way for students to see a chemical reaction happening right in front of them.

And the best part? The students absolutely loved it!

There were huge smiles, plenty of excitement and lots of curiosity as students mixed, experimented and watched their potions come to life. It was wonderful to see students engaging with science in such a playful and memorable way.

Science can be exciting in so many different ways! Sometimes it’s about learning new ideas, sometimes it’s about asking questions, and sometimes it’s about getting hands-on and seeing the science happen right in front of you. 🧪✨

A huge thank you to all the students who joined us — you certainly brought some extra magic to Science Week! 🧪✨

Year 8 Camp | Day 3 Recap 🌧️💙
As our three-day Year 8 camp at Wadjemup (Rottnest Island) came to an end, students began the final day by packing up their dorms, cleaning the camp facilities and making one last rainy walk back to the village before boarding the ferry home.
Before departing the island, students took part in a final reflection session, sharing what they had gained from their camp experience and the moments that had made the biggest impact.
Students reflected on unexpected friendships, the trust and connections they had developed within their platoons, and the moments where they had challenged themselves in ways they hadn't expected.
It was wonderful to hear students recognise their own growth and the positive impact they had on one another throughout the camp. From stepping outside their comfort zones to supporting their teammates and embracing new experiences, our Year 8s showed resilience, courage and a willingness to give things a go.
A fitting way to finish three unforgettable days of adventure, teamwork, growth and connection! 🌊🚲💙
