Rain, hail or shine, you can’t stop these ladies ☔💜
Three years on from that very first meeting at the Carina Bowls Club, where more than 200 women came together to share their ideas and vision, it was amazing to see our community come together once more at the Bowls Club to celebrate the official sod-turning for the Carina Women’s Shed.
I want to give a special shoutout to some truly incredible people: Linda, Sam, Gayle, Satrina, Melissa and Brooke. This shed simply would not be here without you. And thank you to the founding committee members, Maree, Kerrie and Helen, for your ongoing support.
As the Lord Mayor said today, this shed will have a profound impact on our community. It will be a place where women support women, build friendships, develop confidence, learn new skills and create meaningful connections.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner was instrumental in making this project a reality by contributing $450,000 towards the project. Without your support, Adrian, this milestone would not have been possible—so thank you!
I would also like to sincerely thank BMD & Jmac. Four years ago, when I asked the CEO, Scott, if he’d support this little idea I had, I don’t think you knew what you were getting yourself into 🤣🤣. But thank you — you and your team have been nothing short of amazing in helping bring this new community shed to life, and we wouldn’t be here without you, Jason or Luke❣️
My last big thank you is to Wade Core and the Carina Leagues Club. Three years ago, we had no money and just a dream. The Leagues Club donated $65,000 straight away, which was instrumental, and has since donated a further $100,000❣️
But we have been so lucky to have the generosity and expertise of a number of businesses and individuals who have helped make the Carina Women’s Shed a reality:
💜 Geoff Gibbons for free town planning support
💜 Bartley Burns for free building certification support
💜 Morgan Conley Solicitors for free legal advice
💜 Cre8ive Concept Design for free design support
💜 Clem Jones Centre for the donation of land
Thank you to everyone who joined us today to celebrate this special milestone, including the Carina Men’s Shed, Rotary Club of Carindale, Tingalpa Pioneers’ Chapel and Cemetery, Carbatec and students from San Sisto College Carina.
Today was a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together behind a shared vision. I can’t wait to see the friendships, skills, confidence and opportunities that will grow from the Carina Women’s Shed for many years to come. 💜
