I’d love to hear your thoughts on the future of Cannon Hill and Murarrie.

As our city continues to grow, we need to make sure we’re planning for the future. Brisbane City Council has started work on a new Precinct Plan, which will investigate opportunities for more housing choice, improved connections, and how we can best support the suburb’s growth over the coming decades.

Please note this is only in the defined area - map in the photos.

I understand conversations about growth can bring mixed emotions. Some residents will be excited about the opportunities this may bring, while others may have concerns about traffic, infrastructure, neighbourhood character and the future of the suburbs. That’s why it’s so important that local residents, businesses and landowners have their say early in the process.

Council is currently seeking community feedback through an online survey and interactive map, available until 19 July 2026.

I will also be out and about holding a series of mobile offices where you can come and chat with me directly:

📍 Wednesday 17 June, 1pm – Cannon Hill Shopping Centre (outside Woolworths)
📍 Tuesday 23 June, 7am – Carport Café
📍 Friday 26 June, 9am – Southgate Avenue (outside Coffee Club)
📍 Saturday 4 July, 9am – Murarrie Recreation Reserve
📍 Wednesday 8 July, 4pm – Bill Cash Park

We’re also letterbox dropping residents in Cannon Hill and Murarrie over the next week to let residents know.

I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to get involved and have your say here: https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/about-council/council-projects/cannon-hill-precinct-plan

Parent show & tell at Kindy 🧇

Councillor Mum vs. waffle truck Dad…. Dad won 😅

I didn’t even get a look in, Billie was so excited to introduce her Dad to the class and have him make waffles for everyone.

The teacher asked Billie, what does your Mum do? She works on a laptop 😅

So grateful for our early educators!!!

Rain, hail or shine, you can’t stop these ladies ☔💜

Three years on from that very first meeting at the Carina Bowls Club, where more than 200 women came together to share their ideas and vision, it was amazing to see our community come together once more at the Bowls Club to celebrate the official sod-turning for the Carina Women’s Shed.

I want to give a special shoutout to some truly incredible people: Linda, Sam, Gayle, Satrina, Melissa and Brooke. This shed simply would not be here without you. And thank you to the founding committee members, Maree, Kerrie and Helen, for your ongoing support.

As the Lord Mayor said today, this shed will have a profound impact on our community. It will be a place where women support women, build friendships, develop confidence, learn new skills and create meaningful connections.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner was instrumental in making this project a reality by contributing $450,000 towards the project. Without your support, Adrian, this milestone would not have been possible—so thank you!

I would also like to sincerely thank BMD & Jmac. Four years ago, when I asked the CEO, Scott, if he’d support this little idea I had, I don’t think you knew what you were getting yourself into 🤣🤣. But thank you — you and your team have been nothing short of amazing in helping bring this new community shed to life, and we wouldn’t be here without you, Jason or Luke❣️

My last big thank you is to Wade Core and the Carina Leagues Club. Three years ago, we had no money and just a dream. The Leagues Club donated $65,000 straight away, which was instrumental, and has since donated a further $100,000❣️

But we have been so lucky to have the generosity and expertise of a number of businesses and individuals who have helped make the Carina Women’s Shed a reality:

💜 Geoff Gibbons for free town planning support
💜 Bartley Burns for free building certification support
💜 Morgan Conley Solicitors for free legal advice
💜 Cre8ive Concept Design for free design support
💜 Clem Jones Centre for the donation of land

Thank you to everyone who joined us today to celebrate this special milestone, including the Carina Men’s Shed, Rotary Club of Carindale, Tingalpa Pioneers’ Chapel and Cemetery, Carbatec and students from San Sisto College Carina.

Today was a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together behind a shared vision. I can’t wait to see the friendships, skills, confidence and opportunities that will grow from the Carina Women’s Shed for many years to come. 💜

26 Laps for 26 Days 🏊‍♀️🎈

What a morning at Mt Gravatt East Pool! and the Helena’s House community are up to Day 7 of this incredible challenge – swimming 26 laps for 26 days to celebrate Helena McIlwaine’s 26th birthday.

Helena was a much-loved member of the BestLife family who dreamed of becoming an Occupational Therapist and supporting children with disabilities. Helena’s House will turn that dream into a reality. A purpose built home where teenagers and young adults can build friendships, develop life skills and take steps toward greater independence.

A huge thank you to Fiona and the whole BestLife team for letting me be part of this wonderful morning.

Please consider making a donation, every contribution helps provide essential safety and medical equipment for Helena’s House therapy room.
