♻️ Award winning partnership helping keep waste out of landfill! πŸ†
Congratulations to the City of Bunbury Waste Education Team and Milligan. on receiving the Regional Award for the Really Really Free Market.

The Really Really Free Market is a community-led initiative that brings people together to share, reuse and repair, giving unwanted items a second life instead of sending them to landfill. With around 300 people attending each market, it's a fantastic example of the circular economy in action.

In 2025, the City's Waste Education Team partnered with Milligan to support the event through data collection, waste education and assistance managing leftover items. Together, the team developed a waste management process that has helped deliver outstanding results. In just six months, more than 12 tonnes of material have been diverted from landfill!

Beyond reducing waste, the Really Really Free Market helps build community connections, encourages sustainable behaviours and demonstrates how small actions can make a big difference.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in this award winning initiative πŸ‘πŸ’š

A few years back I ran Food Rescue (now Secondbite) in Perth and along that journey I was fortunate to meet like-minded purpose filled organisations such as

I have stayed in touch with Elaine, the Ops Manager, an ex colleague, who with her team and volunteer hairdressers arrived in Bunbury ready for a day of giving to our vulnerable community tomorrow at Koolambidi Woola between 10am - 2pm.

Through the act of giving a free haircut, volunteer hairdressers, build a connection, offering a time and space to those not defined by their circumstances.

If you are a hair dresser and would like to join the team by volunteering once a month for two hours (on a Monday usually) please reach out to Elaine on 0422 550 322 or reach on their socials.

It is hard to express on this post the difference you would make by volunteering for Short, Back and Sidewalks. Helping create dignity for a person is a gift, or it might even be listening to their story.

As an elected member and part of our City of Bunbury Disability and Inclusion Advisory Group, I enjoyed joining my fellow councillors tonight to learn how we can improve inclusion for all of community.

This graphic below was a timely reminder of what a community looks like when we stop learning and doing!

As every person deserves to feel valued and included, I would love to hear your thoughts on what we can do better.

Sunday has become the day for a long walk along back beach, past the lighthouse following the footpath along Casuarina Drive before passing in front of Vat 2 then The Bayview Bar, Dome Cafes Bunbury, Morris Lane Taffys, Flow36 Cafe & Restaurant, The Parade and The Happy Wife Bunbury

Today I noticed these small installations amongst the pavement just near The Cray Bunbury. How fun are they?

It was an informative session at the Hay Park Precinct tonight hearing about the Bunbury Water Recovery Scheme Project.

Aqwest team presented an update to clubs and shared the commencement of construction for the treatment plant in Dallyellup.

With 4 kms of pipeline the scheme will provide 2 gigalitres to Hay Park per year. Some benefits, other than the obvious, is that the scheme will allow for greater water use and a decrease in fertiliser use.
