Today, 5 of Broadford’s Junior Firefighters took on a different kind of challenge as they tackled the 4.7km Run for the Kids across the iconic Bolte Bridge. Decked out in their training overalls, they proudly supported a different part of the community—kids supporting kids in need.

The clouds cleared just in time, making it a beautiful sunny day for the 30,000 people who came together to support such an important cause close to everyone's hearts 💜

🕯 Black Saturday – 17 Years On 🕯

Today we remember Black Saturday — 7th of February 2009 (07/02/09), a day that changed Victoria forever.

On this day, 173 lives were lost, more than 400 people were injured, and over 2,000 homes and buildings were destroyed as bushfires burned through communities across the state. Entire towns were changed forever, and the impact of that day is still felt by many families and firefighters today.

We pause to remember those who lost their lives, those who were injured, and the families and communities who continue to live with this loss. We also acknowledge the courage and dedication of the firefighters, emergency service workers, and volunteers who stood on the front line in unimaginable conditions.

With recent bushfires passing through parts of our landscape, we recognise that these events may have caused many to relive the trauma of Black Saturday. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by these recent fires and with those who continue to carry the memories of past tragedies.

Our thoughts remain with the families, friends, and communities impacted by Black Saturday.
May we honour those lost by continuing to learn, prepare, and look out for one another — ensuring their legacy strengthens our commitment to community safety.

If today brings up difficult emotions, please remember that support is available.
You are not alone.
