Harvey and Ros Scott Sawmill Bluemont. Harvey has recently retired from Sawmilling and thought it appropriate to appreciate one of the last two families that have contributed so much to the sawmilling industry in the district.

Rusty Richards
A Legend of the past
Taken from This Australia written by Greg Morgan
The existence of individuals like Rupert 'Rusty', Richards however, has prevented the traditional image from disappearing altogether.
Rusty is a bullocky in the old tradition. His great- grandfather, George, was transported apparently because a chaff-cutter he was operating, broke down. On his release, George became a bullocky.
Rusty who has no sons, is the last in an unbroken line of bullockies for four generations. Rusty prefers bullocks, horses are more expensive, require more attention and aren't as tough. Bullocks are very intelligent and perceptive animals.

Engine drivers certificate to operate steam powered engines.
These were offered to all steam engines drivers that were capable and had a good understanding of operation of certain powered steam engines. The inspector would also carry out boiler inspection of worthiness and steam pressure tests before granting a certificate of operation. Many engines during the late forties were steam pressure de-rated to safe operation rather than causing an explosion. This actually happened at North Scottsdale, Jimmy Gofton's mill 1942, mill was at idle and the boiler decided to depart the housing causing total destruction of the mill.
