What an incredible honour for Botany and Maroubra RSL sub-Branchs to be invited by South Sydney High School to participate in their “Our Australian Soldiers” art project.

Representing Botany RSL Sub-Branch were Nora Fisher, Bede Moy and Pam Richardson (Mascot) who proudly posed for a series of stunning artworks created by talented students.

Featured works included:

🎨 Nora Fisher – Watercolour by Christina Gabriel (Year 12)

✏️ Bede Moy – Graphite Pencil by Iggy Wiseman (Year 9) and Amelia Gleeson (Year 9)

🎨 Pam Richardson – Coloured Pencil by Chloe Rabreaud (Year 9)

🎨 Nora Fisher – Painting by Brontë McMullen (Year 12)

✏️ Pam Richardson – Graphite Pencil by Ester Jonkx-Kawasaki (Year 9)

The creativity, skill and dedication displayed by these young artists were truly remarkable. Their artwork not only showcased exceptional talent but also reflected a deep respect for Australia’s service men and women.

A sincere thank you to South Sydney High School, its teachers and students, for such a meaningful initiative. It is inspiring to see the next generation honouring veterans through art, learning and remembrance.

The artworks were simply outstanding, and everyone involved should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.

Botany RSL Sub-Branch had the honour of accompanying Year 6 students from Banksmeadow Public School to the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway.

It was a wonderful opportunity to help educate and inspire these young people through a hands-on experience, learning about the courage, sacrifice and service of those who served on the Kokoda Track.

Lest we forget.

The RSL and Schools Remember ANZAC Art Competition 2027 is open for entries!

Primary and secondary school students in NSW are encouraged to create a piece of art inspired by this year’s theme, which is The Power of Mateship.

This theme focuses on one of the most meaningful parts of the ANZAC Spirit - looking out for others, standing together, and showing kindness in difficult times.

Share this post with your family, friends, and the young artists in your life to encourage them to get creative and pay tribute to Australia’s servicemen and women.

The RSL and Schools Remember ANZAC Art Competition is a collaboration between the NSW Department of Education, Catholic Schools NSW, and Independent Schools NSW.

More information about the theme, how the competition works and how to enter can be found here: https://rslnsw.org.au/artcompetition/

Lest we forget

RSL NSW extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Special Air Service Regiment soldier Warrant Officer Class Two Lachlan Muddle, who tragically lost his life during a parachuting training incident at Jervis Bay Airfield, on the state’s south coast.

Our thoughts are also with the other soldier injured in the incident, and with the broader Defence community at this difficult time.

Training accidents are a stark reminder of the risks our servicemen and women continue to face in service to the nation, both here at home and abroad.

We ask that the privacy of those affected be respected.

We honour the service and sacrifice of all Australian Defence Force personnel who continue to put themselves in harm’s way in service of our country.

Lest we forget 🌺

If anyone in the veteran community needs support, please reach out to Open Arms - Veterans & Families Counselling on 1800 011 046 or Lifeline crisis support on 13 11 14.

Botany RSL Sub-Branch was honoured to accompany students from St Bernard’s Catholic School, Botany, on a tour of the Kokoda Track Memorial yesterday.

It was fantastic to see our young people immersed in such a meaningful hands-on educational experience, learning about the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of those who served.

Opportunities like these help ensure the spirit and stories of our veterans continue to be remembered and carried forward by future generations.
