South Coast Fire and Rescue NSW crews worked with Local Indigenous Lands Council crews over the past week to conduct cultural burns in the Tura beach area. Check out this great video on the collaboration of agencies to conduct a low intensity and successful burn.

See this important video and the frightening consequence of a lithium Ion battery fire in a residential unit in Sydney yesterday. We are seeing more and more of these types of fires in residential homes involving Lithium Ion battery powered equipment. We recommend:
- Only charge your e-bikes, e-scooters and Lithium powered devices outdoors wherever possible
- Only buy reputable and compatible battery brands
- Don’t mix and match components and brands
- Avoid over-charging
- Turn off chargers while you’re asleep or away from home
- Make sure you have a working smoke alarm/s.

Not following this advice and easy tips could be catastrophic for you and your family.

Check out the important post below by our colleagues from the RFS South Coast Team last night.
Strong winds gusting up to 50km/hr are on the menu for the south coast today and into tonight. We ask everyone to be careful particularly with any pile burns planned or other outdoor fires today and tonight. RFS advise to put the pile burns and open outdoor fires off until the strong winds drop off hopefully tomorrow.
Additionally, when cleaning out your indoor open fire from last night or tonight make sure you place the remains in a steel bucket with a lid or scatter them on your garden and give them a hose down before heading to bed. Three recent house fires were caused by remains from an indoor fire being left in an open bucket on the back verandah that were reignited with strong winds causing sever damage to those properties. 🔥Check your Pile Burn 🔥

Saturday 8th July the Far South Coast is looking to be windy!
Winds averaging 40 km/h with WIND GUSTS around 50 km/h are forecast to develop from early Saturday morning and persisting through until Saturday evening.
Residents who have or are undertaking pile burning are urged to check, extinguish and put off any pile burning until conditions have eased.
Grassland areas have cured in recent weeks and it only take one spark to ignite a fast moving fire in these conditions.
We have seen several escaped burns already occur in the area over the last couple of weeks resulting in Volunteers spending many hours away from family and friends.
If you have lost control of your burn or are struggling to extinguish, make sure you contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.

A huge well done to our crews at Perisher Valley who this week completed a short informative video which focuses on evacuation procedures for ski lodge managers to use during their induction sessions with new guests throughout the snow season. The training and educational video is an innovative approach by the team at Perisher Fire Station to deliver quality education material to their community to keep them safer should an emergency occur.
