🚒 A QUIET (AND LONELY) MARCH 🚒

A total of 0 call-outs for March this year.

While things have been quiet on the incident front, our crews have continued working behind the scenes, keeping up with training, maintaining equipment, and making sure we’re ready to respond when the next call comes in.

After a steady January and a large-scale incident in February, it’s been a good opportunity to reset, stay sharp, and remain prepared.

🚒 FEBRUARY CALL OUT CATCH-UP 🚒

Our single call-out for February was a big one.

Crews from Alton Downs responded alongside 15+ appliances from neighbouring RFS brigades, as well as QFR crews from Rockhampton and Gracemere, to a series of fires stretching between Kalapa and Westwood.

The fires are believed to have been caused by a failed bearing on a horse float, igniting grass and vegetation along the Capricorn Highway.

🔥 Multiple spot fires
📍 17km stretch of highway
👨‍🚒 Huge multi-agency response - QFD, QPS and QAS all in attendance

A mammoth effort from all crews to contain and extinguish the fires across a long and challenging incident.

March call-outs drop tomorrow — stay tuned 👀

WE’VE GOT SOME CATCHING UP TO DO! 🚒

It’s been a quiet start to the year for us here at Alton Downs. With several major rain systems moving through the region, the RRC area has had plenty of time to soak up some much-needed rainfall.

January saw a total of 3 call-outs for our brigade:

Our first was a QAS lift assist. Crews were turned out but stood down en route, as Rockhampton Fire Rescue had already arrived on scene.

On the 31st of January, we attended two separate incidents:
– A vehicle fire on Ridgelands Road
– A grass fire in the Hamilton Creek area near Mt Morgan

Over the next couple of days, we’ll be catching up on our February and March call outs, stay tuned!

It was a lonely ol’ night in the shed on Monday, so quiet you could hear the dust settling and swear Central 71 and Alton Downs 41 were quietly sobbing into their mudflaps…

It was a different story for Alton Downs 51 though, who was reportedly living it up during an overnight sleepover at Robo's Tyreworks after a run-in out on the Capricorn Highway on Sunday, where she was in to get a tyre sorted.

Additionally, we are aware of a few unconfirmed reports she may have been spotted across the road at the the local watering hole during her stay; however, she was breath tested the following morning and returned a negative result.
Investigations are ongoing, and we cannot make any further comments at this time.

Lastly a huge thanks to the crew at Robos Tyres for squeezing us in at such short notice and getting our faithful old girl patched up and back on the run. She’s home, she’s happy, and she’s ready to roll when the pager goes off next!🚒

We have been made aware some older Apple devices are currently experiencing issues connecting to the Telstra network, where they may not be able to make or receive phone calls, including emergency calls to Triple Zero (000).

Devices that may be impacted include:
📱 iPhone 8 updated to iOS16.7.13
📱 iPhone 8 Plus updated to iOS16.7.13
📱 iPhone X updated to iOS16.7.13

Telstra recommends users of these Apple devices delay updating the software on their device until the issue is resolved.

🔥 2025 YEAR IN REVIEW – ALTON DOWNS RURAL FIRE 🔥

While we are a bit late to the party - another year wraps up and we want to take a moment to reflect on what’s been a big year of service for our brigade.

Throughout 2025, our volunteers responded to a wide range of incidents including:
🔥 Vegetation, structure and car fires
⛈️ Storm and flood damage
⚠️ Hazard reduction burns
✈️ National and state deployments - often at short notice

Each call-out was met with professionalism, teamwork, and a strong commitment to keeping our community safe.

📈 October stood out as our busiest month, with a total of 15 call outs.

👩‍🚒👨‍🚒 This year we were also proud to welcome 5 new members to the brigade. Their enthusiasm and willingness to step up strengthens our team and ensures we’re building capacity for the future.

Behind every response are many hours of training, and preparation - most of it goes unseen.

Lastly to our volunteers, their families, local residents and partner agencies: thank you for standing with us throughout the year. We look forward to continuing to serve our community in the year ahead.

Stay safe,
Alton Downs Rural Fire 🚒
