Incredible, rare floods in Ormiston Gorge this week, West MacDonnell Ranges, 136km from Alice Springs. Love it when it rains in the desert!

Such a special Central Australian project, helping a small population of Mala (Rufous Hare Wallaby) survive, when they’re extinct in the wild. So cute, too!

Such a special World Heritage site

Today is World Heritage Day, otherwise known as the International Day for Monuments and Sites.

Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park was first added to the World Heritage list in 1987, when the international community recognised its spectacular geological formations, rare plants and animals, and outstanding natural beauty.

In 1994, UNESCO also recognised the park’s cultural landscape – the unique relationship between the natural environment and the belief system of Aṉangu, one of the oldest societies on earth.

Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park is one of only a few dozen places in the world to have received a dual World Heritage listing (and one of only four in Australia).

We have a responsibility to protect the park’s World Heritage values for the benefit of everyone. We work with Aṉangu to do this, using a combination of traditional knowledge and modern science to care for country.
