Four years ago, I did something slightly crazy and ran in the local government elections. It has been an absolute honour to represent the local community as an elected member.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the past four years - most importantly my parents, Andrew’s parents, my children (who know too much about local government at ages 8 and 10) and Andrew. Without the support of my network I wouldn’t have been able to sit in the chamber and serve the community.

That’s a wrap on my first term on council. It’s been crazy. I’ve learnt a lot. And I’ve had some fun. Thank you to the whole elected body and the staff. The chamber did make a huge impact and get “stuff done”. Thank you all.

As of 12pm today, Council goes into caretaker mode as the preparation for 2022 elections commence.

I have made the difficult decision not to run for Council in the upcoming elections. It has been an absolute honour to represent local residents over the last four years.

I wish all candidates the best for the upcoming elections and their campaign.

KEEPING THE COMMUNITY SAFE: Throughout the COVID pandemic the City of Burnside has strived to ensure all services are delivered safely to minimise the community’s risk of exposure to COVID. On Saturday 12 March, SA Government removed the density limits of all public activities, including at sports and recreation facilities like swimming pools. Despite this, community facilities are still required to operate with a COVID-Safe Plan to ensure all operations continue safely.

At the George Bolton Swimming Centre Burnside, although we can now increase the number of people that can enter the premises and access the grounds, we must continue to adhere to the social distancing requirements within the water itself, as per our COVID-Safe Plan. Because of this the swimming centre’s online booking system will remain in place for the remaining five weeks of the season. This is to ensure there is a safe number of people within the water, which will reduce the risk of exposure and transmission of COVID for you and your loved ones. REGAL THEATRE TEMPORARY CLOSURE: The Regal Theatre is temporarily closed to allow a COVID deep-clean to take place. Council has today been made aware that unfortunately a staff member tested positive to COVID. Council's contact cleaners are currently onsite and, all going well, the Theatre will reopen tomorrow. Although the employee had limited contact with patrons, and was wearing a mask, if you attended the theatre on 30 December, please consider having a COVID test. Great to see Council fund this important project. City of Burnside funded this project despite Department of Transport owning this section of road.

NEW CROSSING FOR GREENHILL ROAD: A new crossing on Greenhill Road was activated on Friday, which will improve pedestrian safety and allow safer access to and from Hazelwood Park. This crossing was solely funded by Council, after the death of a 90-year-old pedestrian, Colin Sargent, while crossing the road in 2007, and the injury of a child in 2018.

Two and a half years ago I put in a budget bid for this crossing and today it finally went live.

It was lovely to celebrate with local members of the community and staff today.

I was so excited to be the first to push the button.

It is nearly ready! I’m so excited that this project is nearly completed. I’ve had a lot of questions about when this crossing will become “live” so here is an update from staff a week and a half ago:

The crossing itself is substantially complete (and has now been energised by SA Power and is ready to be switched on).

Once the final asphalt surfacing works are completed, the line marking and detector loops can be installed; typically occurs at least a week later to allow the asphalt to cure first.

This is also typically the time that the PAC would be ‘commissioned’ i.e. permanently switched on and handed over to DIT.

So it is very close!
