A little honesty tonight…

The other night, I had a frightening experience that highlighted just how vulnerable our sanctuary can be.

I had gone out to celebrate a friend’s birthday — a rare occasion for me, as most of my time is spent caring for the animals. During the evening, a man took an interest in me. I did not give him any personal information, and certainly never shared my home or sanctuary address.

Despite that, he took it upon himself to turn up at my home and sanctuary uninvited.

It was a stark reminder that the sanctuary is not just a place where animals are cared for — it’s also my home. The safety of my joeys, volunteers, visitors, and myself has to come first. Our sanctuary is strictly private, we have vulnerable and traumatised animals here who deserve peace and safety.

As a result, we urgently need to install a proper security camera system across the sanctuary.

Dougie! How did this happen so fast?

Dougie isn't a tiny baby anymore. He's growing up right before my eyes, chatting away to me and becoming more confident every day.

The afternoon sun was shining through his ears, lighting up all those big red veins ❤️

Still my baby though, no matter how big he gets.

And honestly… with that cheeky personality, she’s giving absolute main character energy already. 💕

Her rescuers chose the name “Marcella,” meaning “little warrior” in French — and it couldn’t suit her more perfectly.

“Are you a good boy, Hugo?” 🦘🥹

The conversations that I have with my babies are my favourite. Most people never get to hear a red kangaroo “talk” — their little grumbles, huffs and chatty noises are so full of personality. Hugo always has something to say back. 🤎
