Thought it was about time to inform you all of the status of arnoldfamilyhistory.com website. At present I am working on 3 fronts.
1. I am ensuring that the familyarnoldhistory.com website is sustainable and will be around for years to come. 1st I am working on our Flip Books which is on subscription. Realistically unsustainable as it is a yearly subscription. What happens if the subscription is forgotten or not paid. The books cease to exist leaving holes in the website. I did some research and found a website that you buy the program for each book and then embed it in the website. It is a one of payment for each book. I am about 2 thirds through converting or changing over to the new flipbooks. Once complete I will not have to worry about them again. basically I bought the licence for each book of which by the way is about 30 or so books. A rather expensive option but worth it.
Once complete I will have a look at our host which is Blue Host which is paid till 2030 If my memory serves me correctly. I am hoping to do a one of payment for a domain, but more research required.
The second front is making the website visable to everyone across the world. So far I have indexed the sites with Google and Bing. More work to do on that front.
And the 3rd front is follow up on more leads I have come across.
The hope is to put it into archives with the state library eventually.
To guarantee it's future, I am looking for a younger family member to eventually take over as the site At times it will require maintenance and fine tuning like anything nowadays.
The site does look after itself but on the odd occasion it will require human intervention. So if anyone is interested in continuing on with this work feel free to drop me a line and let's talk. I am happy to work with the person for a time, until they are confident to go it alone.
I can report to you all that the website is in great shape and will continue to get bigger and better as more info with evidence comes in.
Every so often I will write a report up to where I am at.
To date, this has been, an interesting and inspiring journey. After all the information I have gathered over the 5 or 6 years I have been working on this I site, I am so proud to be apart of the Arnold Family for they were resilient, tough, and explorers and contributed so much not only to South Australia but to our great nation as a whole. I have found one Soldier who paid the ultimate price so that we can be free. You will find his record of service on the website, as I have also found other soldiers that fought but came home. Their record of service is also on the website. Just click on the rising sun under the name and you will find their record of service that I gained from the National Archives.
It is my hope and wish that this website lives on for many years to come.
As you can imagine, there is a fair amount of cost involved which my sister and I have contributed. Now we are now reaching out for a donation from members of the Arnold family. It certainly will be appreciated. I spoke to Chris about creating a sponsor page. She agreed. We would not put the amount on the page. Just another job for me.
