At the June 2026 IAEA Board of Governors, Malaysia commended the Agency's vital work in climate action, cancer care (Rays of Hope) and plastic pollution (NUTEC plastics). Malaysia is proud to play its part in developing innovative recycling technology and driving a circular economy.

Malaysia also warmly welcomes the IAEA Technical Cooperation Programme for the State of Palestine. We urge the expansion of this essential technical support, in accordance with the relevant IAEA Technical Cooperation resolutions.

Malaysia participated in the 48th Regional Meeting of National Representatives for the IAEA Regional Cooperative Agreement (RCA) in Mumbai, India, from 19-22 May 2026.

At the meeting, Malaysia, as the regional lead for the project Enhancing Regional Capabilities in Advanced Non-Destructive Testing Techniques for Improved Safety and Inspection Performance in Industries, presented its comprehensive progress report on the RCA Technical Cooperation Program for Industry.

Malaysia also shared the outcome of the Regional Training Course on Radiographic Testing–Digital (RT-D) Level 3 in Bangi, Malaysia.

At the 35th Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, Malaysia highlighted its strengthened national response to cybercrime, including the expanded mandate of the National Scam Response Centre that now covers all cybercrime classifications, establishing it as Malaysia’s central hub for rapid cross-border enforcement and electronic evidence collection.

Malaysia also shared its ongoing work on drafting a new Cybercrime Bill to replace the Computer Crimes Act 1997 [Act 563], aimed to address substantive offences, grant investigative powers for data access and real-time interception, as well as formally institutionalise Malaysia’s 24/7 network point of contact for international cooperation under the UN Convention against Cybercrime’s framework.

At the 35th Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, Malaysia reaffirmed its firm commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations through a balanced approach encompassing prevention, enforcement, rehabilitation and reintegration alongside international cooperation.

Malaysia highlighted that, through the Malaysia Action Plan on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism, it adopts a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach focused on early intervention, youth engagement, community resilience and countering extremist narratives in digital spaces.

At the 35th Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, Malaysia also highlighted the robust enforcement of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, Anti-Restricted Activity Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 [Act 613], as well as the critical coordinating role of the Council for Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Malaysia further underscored its strategic anti-corruption initiatives under the National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2024–2028, including landmark legislative overhauls such as the passing of the Government Procurement Bill and the latest amendments to the Whistle-blower Protection Act. Malaysia shared its significant success in recovering misappropriated funds through international assistance and cross-border asset tracing.

CP Datuk M. Kumar S. Muthuvelu, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Royal Malaysia Police, led Malaysia’s delegation at the 35th Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Vienna.

In his statement at the General Debate, he highlighted Malaysia's ongoing reforms in its criminal justice system, with emphasis on:

i. Strengthening public trust;
ii. Ensuring procedural fairness; and
iii. Legal empowerment for vulnerable groups.

Malaysia also reaffirmed its commitment to regional law enforcement cooperation in Southeast Asia and its firm stance on eliminating barriers in asset recovery under the UN Convention against Corruption.
